Forgive my lack of knowledge, but is Miami women’s hockey NCAA D1 now or a Club sport designation?

Miami (7-1-0-1) stays at #8 this week. Of note, McKendree moves up to #1, so our only regulation loss is to the #1 team in the country.

Hope it boosts us above Maryville University. A school in St. Louis about the size of Lindenwood!

Not sure how Miami wins both games this past weekend and falls behind Adrian, especially since Adrian is 3-6-2.

Miami, idle last weekend, stays at #9 heading into this weekend’s home and home with #12 Michigan.

Miami beat Michigan 6-1 today at Goggin. Shots were reportedly 47-28 in favor of the Wolverines, but that was from the Michigan broadcast crew. Nevertheless, Maya Gonzalez stopped all but one, and that was on a Michigan power play. Maya G came into the game with an amazing .960 save percentage and was the #1 star again today.

Miami lead 2-1 after two periods on goals from Sydney Soler and Mandy Cronin. Captain Katie McGurn scored less than a minute into the third and the route was on. Emma Heinig, Olivia Lorelli, and Lyla Tsu also scored to provide the final margin.

The same two teams play tomorrow at 4:00 pm at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor.

Depending on how you look at it, Miami either tied Michigan today 2-2 or lost 3-2 in a shootout. A shootout definitely occurred, and Michigan scored the only goal in the shootout, but the shootout is not an official part of the ACHA standings so the game is officially recorded as a tie.

Miami goal scores were Olivia Lorelli and Lauren Smith. Smith’s goal came on a very nice cross-ice pass by Lorelli that Smith one-touched and deflected over the Michigan goaltender‘s shoulder. Even more amazing was that Smith was about 5 feet offside and the linesman did not call it, so the Michigan bench was apoplectic. The goal gave Miami a 2-1 lead in the third, but Michigan scored with 1:30 left to tie it.

Miami returns home to Goggin to face Eastern Michigan on Friday and Saturday.
