The Reds

Sal Stewart won’t be winning a gold glove at 1B anytime soon.

I’m proud we made the playoffs. Team needs some upgrades.

For the sin of failing to score multiple times with runners in scoring position, the Reds seek atonement.

Based loaded with no outs is NEVER ANY EXCUSE not to score. This is a .500 team that can thank the Mets for their 2 game LA Vacation.

I’ll try to be concise because I tend to ramble:

Suarez had a very similar injury to McLain, also around the same point of the season. It wasn’t until year 3 that Suarez had a major improvement. (50 point OBP jump, 80 point OPS jump). Next year will be McLain’s 3rd year, so let’s hope he returns to what was expected of him. That would go a long way toward helping the offense.

A full season from Marte, a full season from Stewart, hopefully fixed whatever happened to Elly. All this is to say I could see a lot of progression on offense by just keeping the same players. There will be one opening in the lineup, and if you read a bit back it was discussed, hopefully the team can get an impact player to fill that spot. I think if most of these things happen, the offense will be plenty good enough to go with the pitching to be a championship contender. But it is a lot of ‘ifs’ to deal with.

Well written.

ps, I was born in the back seat of a greyhound bus rolling down highway 41. Nothing wrong at all with rambling.

I feel like they are in a good spot to make a solid pitch to Schwarber. They don’t have a ton of big raises coming up next year but a lot of first year arbitration eligible players in 2027. Use the $21 million Nick Martinez got towards getting Schwarbs here on a 3-4 year deal and put him in the DH spot.

You get a star for quoting one of my favorite guitar players: Dickey Betts!

But, can you play it?

That is a state secret!!

Dickey Betts had a little side project called Dickey Betts and Great Southern. They really had one album, a live one. It is outstanding. This is my favorite song from that album. “Good Time Feeling” And yes, I know this doesn’t have a damn thing to do with the Reds! (Other than Reds fans like me sure as hell aren’t having good time feelings at the moment!")

Offensive WAR distribution by team shows just how bad the Reds’ offense was compared to other teams. Only above the generationally bad Rockies.

Maybe our coach is punching above his weight.

From Mark Sheldon’s latest email:

Where and how can the Reds add offense?

The Reds ranked in the bottom half of MLB in most offensive categories this year, but among the ones that stood out were 21st in home runs (167), 24th in weighted runs created (92 wRC+) and 28th in hard-hit rate (38.2 percent). They were ninth in strikeouts. Situational hitting was a big weakness, with a 3-12 record in extra-inning games underscoring that issue the most.

The team went 3/39 in extra innings post all-star break. (this is missing the last extra innings game because I’m just remembering the stat from when that game went to extras. I think they won that game with a few more extra inning hits.

The rotation will lose Martinez and Littell, and add Burns and Lowder. One year remains on Singer’s contract, and two on Lodolo’s. I would be okay to trade either of those players for a masher if they miss in free agency. I assume a second piece would need to be added. The team NEEDS a big bat acquisition this offseason.

This is great news! If I live to 2071, at which time I will be 106, I will get to see the Reds win the World Series!

Dang, Houston winning 6 of 8 could be the biggest dynasty of all time. The players that fill that roster are going to be born soon, wonder how chatgpt got so good at scouting.

Baltimore in three years. Totally.

Nice try, bots.

Looking forward to my 87th birthday and a Cleveland Guardians world series championship in 2052!!

Mariners finally win one when I’m 86 - after 59 years of existence.
