My daughter has been a member of Swoop’s kids club for 3 years now. She never once received her packet on time, not even remotely close. Last year was the best one, as we received everything in Mid December before the bowl game after multiple calls, emails, and visits to Lindsay’s office at Millet.
I promised myself 2023 was the last year I ever purchased the membership. I feel sorry for the WBB folks. Honestly, the major reason I attend so many of their games is because my daughter doesn’t have to pay for it due to the membership. But it is annoying to beg people to give me a product I’ve already paid for.
More like 3/4 of the route, depending on where you get on. Riding the bus for 21 minutes isn’t that much better than walking for 28. Considering how small of a market Oxford is, the bus service is great. But I don’t think it makes it that convenient to go to games.
No pay available? Why not hire retired folks from Oxford? Give them free tickets and a meal pass and you’d likely get volunteers. I never understand why the largest population group in America is so easily overlooked. Besides, Boomers learned manners and would not let the ball drop on replying.
How about on game days (or game evenings) offer “targeted bus routes” from dorm pod advertised locations directly to Millett or Yager…no other stops in between…during that time, regular bus routes would be “temporarily” suspended so that all the busses could do the “event run routes.” Begin up an hour before kickoff or tipoff…maybe two hours for FB. Run them as many times as needed and halt the bus runs 15 minutes before the start of the sporting event.
During the sports event, resume regular bus routes and change back again after the contest to offer targeted return routes to the various dorm pods beginning immediately after a game…aprox 2 hours after start of contest for hoops and 3 hours for FB.
Miami could even offer bus rides direct from Brick Street to Millett or Yager and a return ride after the contest.
Have designated pick up spots, advertise them in the dorms,…create signage, put up reminder signage on game days informing students what time the busses start to roll…for God’s sake, it takes only a small mind to think creatively. Does anyone in ICA have a brain?
Overlooked in this whole convo is the fact that this team sucked for the better part of 2 decades, and the caliber of opponent coming to O-Town was/is lacking.
Miami had a pretty good crowd (7,285) vs Cincinnati 2 years ago…
If you win, the students will find the stadium. The walk isn’t that far. Very few truly bitter cold days in Oxford during hoops season - particularly when most students are gone most of January. If they live central/south quad and can’t make the walk in one stretch, stop by uptown each way.
All comes down to the product - which has a losing history for their entire lives at this point.
I think the problem with the AD is the same with the university overall. It’s too insular and too self-satisfied. Outside perspective and any challenges to the status quo do not seem to be welcome. The Board of Trustees is the same. Every member is an alum. There is no fresh perspective or experiences being brought to the table.
