Yes, yes they do!!
There are about 50 student interns in athletic communications at any given time but they have high turnover
Interesting. Are they paid? Seems like a lot could be accomplished with that many students.
Not student section related, but the AD did a Redhawk coaches caravan about 10-15 years ago with stops in Cincy, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Indy, Chicago, etc. The Cincinnati Reds do something similar. I thought it was nice event and a great way to engage with alums. This summer would be good timing with an event like that, right ahead of our best football team in 20 years and a well-spoken coach like Travis Steele building back the hoops program. They could charge $50 for a meal and a drink ticket or two and include a free ticket to a future football or basketball game.
I have a good friend that is a head coach. When he goes to a school where attendance is a problem he engages the fraternities and sororities himself. He meets with them gives them preferred seating, swag and makes them apart of the culture. He has been very successful with this approach. Mostly what I hear from CM regarding fans is actually pretty negative. He needs to embrace these students and personally be involved with getting them involved.
Most arenāt because we donāt have the funds for it. Plays into the turnover for sure.
Even when students do show up in the last 1-2 years they seem largely uninterested. Hockey this weekend was a great example. Seemed like a pretty strong student crowd at the game on Friday night. Late in the 3rd period with the team holding a one goal lead the vast majority of the students were seated, no chants, no cheers, nothing.
Yep, getting them there is only half the battle. Winning money through Rogers Rewards is nice but it isnāt going to drive engagement.
Goal is to get more students to the bleachers. Pack out a bleacher section and make it fun and we can get some momentum
We had bleachers courtside when I was at Miami.
Iāll repeat here what I said to @preaves_15 and @danielren123
Even if the turnout tonight still sucks, this is not the end but only the beginning for The Brickwall.
But damn it, weāve busted our asses literally since last August for this so I seriously hope we can see that our efforts arenāt for nothing
Itās never for nothing as you will learn something either way. My two cents: take lots of pics and get a handle on the attendance you help generate. Could be a great case study for you for an employer depending on what you want to do. For marketing roles, it would be well received. Good luck!
I sounds like there is actually a functioning student section in there tonight.
Had 20-30 on the bleachers and ran out of our 250 tshirts (we were expecting to have a lot extra). Good attendance, next step is to get everyone more engaged which falls on us to get everyone involved and having fun. It can be done
Doing anything in life is a habit. Whether it keeps going depends on if you can feed the habit to make it worth doing. Hereās a hint: limit the amount of student you let in the club.
Itās not really a club, the student section is itās own entity BUT with that being said thereās only so many spaces in the bleachers. We make it fun enough to be there that people are vying to get in and weāll be onto something
Hats off to you young guys for making a determined effort!
Thatās kinda how Google email started. Seems funny in retrospect. Iām also pretty sure there are examples in fashion as well. Either way, keep up the good work.
Thanks for the effort. And I am sure winning would help your efforts as well.
