I hate Ball State but their nest idea got me thinking…if you made the arena a bird sanctuary/arena, you could put endangered nests over the visitors section. Naturally, you aren’t legally allowed to move the nests once babies hatch, thus visiting fans get covered in bird shit for the duration of the new arena’s life. Also, all students throw bird seed at the opposing fans.
I’m just gonna say that pub has got to be the bleakest place on planet Earth to have a drink. Sitting in your parked car in your garage at home having a drink is better than taking any time to go there.
My honey is a UNCW alum and her son used to be an administrator there. He got VIP passes for us to the pre-game cocktail party in the adjoining volleyball gym. They had sliders, wings, etc and beer and wine. It was a good way to get ready for a game. The coach came by to talk briefly about the night’s opponent and the status of the Seahawks. But it closed before tipoff. Nothing inside the arena. Ball State’s was actually at halftime in an area that looked like a bistro pub.
Does Miami do anything like UNCW for pregame for season ticket holders?
Wright State does the same thing. I ended up running into @Nickskin before the WSU/Miami game last year at the Nutter Center.
Miami doesn’t do it. They’ll do a donor appreciation game where they have the curtain end open with food and drinks once a season, but that’s the only comparable thing.
While an assistant AD at Vandy, Brad Bates was present when The Rolling Stones performed at the Vandy football stadium. As part of the contract, the Stones required use of the basketball arena where they put up a giant tent with carpets covering the entire basketball court. The tent was used for the band to hang out before the concert.
During the Brad Bates era at Miami, basketball hosted Michigan in a regular season contest (2006-07 season). Bates used the “open end” of Millett Hall (behind the curtain) to put up a similar tent. This was the first game Miami utilized courtside seating. In the tent, there was a big spread pre-game and an amazing dessert spread at halftime. Those who purchased those special courtside seats and others were entitled into this “VIP” area. It was actually quite cool.
The next season, Miami implemented courtside seating for all games and had the tent up for about 6 games (I think Saturday / Sunday games). I believe the tent lasted one year. Bates said Miami was losing money on it.
I suggested opening it up for courtside seating and perhaps other special sections (coaches corner) and charging a bit more as the experience was nice. The idea died and that was the end of “tent” experiment at Miami.
Warped Wing, particularly Gamma Bomb is piss (pig) swill. New Holland has not been producing good beers recently. Need to branch out, my friend.
If in Ohio, try Dank House out of Newark.
CLAG out of Sandusky is unreal.
Masthead is good. Fatheads is great. Brew Kettle and its main brew, White Rajah, are fantastic. I also love the barbecued spaghetti they serve at the brewery.
Man, some shitty fucking beers listed here. I didn’t even have to go outside of Ohio, but far better breweries than those listed.
Now if MU could serve CLAG, Dank House, Fatheads, etc. at the sweet new bball facility along with good food, I’m there along with many other alum.
I was speaking with someone affiliated with Miami yesterday, and he said that an announcement is coming next week regarding the “top two” sites for a new basketball arena. Neither of them will be the location across from Lewis Place. Whew!! That said, he couldn’t confirm which two locations will be in the announcement. I guess there’s still come discussion going on? Can anyone else confirm this intel?
