Road to the MAC Championship Game

It does point out a weird aspect of the Cradle tradition. Miami’s top three coaches for all-time wins at Miami are Chuck, Terry, and Randy. We tend to venerate the ones who leave early and win elsewhere more than the ones who stay and win here.

That begs the question, how many MAC championships do you think it would take for him to get one? 5? 10? Bring Miami to a power conference? CFP appearance?

It is strange. Hep is a guy who literally had Miami in the top 10 in the national rankings in the “modern” era. In terms of the statues, why should Miami fans care more for other guys who didn’t go to/play for Miami (Woody Hayes, as an example) and achieved great success elsewhere?

I’d counter its perfectly reasonable when the name is the “Cradle of Coaches”. The great ones should be moving on, and those that have great success after moving on deserve the recognition.

Randy and Terry, while staying a bit, are much closer to Bo in tenure at Miami than Martin. Chuck’s really the first coach who has ever stayed.

And I think an interesting discussion is if that’s ultimately a good thing or not.

Ara obviously moved on to national recognition at ND, but he was an incredible HC at Miami for 5 years…look up his record. There were only like 12 bowl games in those days so he didn’t get to take a team to a bowl.

Can I point out the MHT cliche that a thread about us being in position to make our 3rd straight MAC title game has turned into a debate over whether Chuck is a good coach or not?

Every post turns into Chuck Martin and attendance talk

I think they actually could win. EMU coach with more resources would dominate. Hats off to him for what he’s done there. They would have to play mistake free, but not impossible.

WHOA WHOA WHOA…we’ve never discussed building Chuck Martin a damn statue! This is entirely new territory! What a generous gift from the idiot fans and media that would be.

His statue could be him signaling for the timeout he forgot to call against UC.

No, it would have to be Chuck in Snoop’s low-rider.

That is what happens when you trust anything from a Bobcat.

The people over at OU’s message board don’t seem to comprehend the tiebreakers.

Just to be clear, we’re rooting for UT?

Most likely, but technically we don’t know right now.

I don’t think we want Ball State coming to Yager with bowl eligibility on the line.

We want Toledo to win 100%

If Toledo lose we need either CMU to beat them, emu to beat WMU, or Ohio to lose to Buffalo which would be upsets. While if Toledo win today we just need Ohio to win who are heavy favorites

But yes if Ohio end up losing we would’ve wanted Toledo to lose today
