If you discount Benson, Hayes, Friedl.
Stephenson has been playing better of late. Frield has been playing less, and one of his replacements, Dunn, is playing like his career depends on him being successful during this call-up, playing with the proverbial fire in his pants. Bleday has taken over LF, after being the #4 overall pick he has been playing much better this year than he had in recent seasons, but the pedigree is certainly there for this to not be a flash in the pan. Iâm just here twiddling my thumbs waiting for the Arroyo call-up, hoping the team is being dumb and waiting until next week after finishing the Hayes bobblehead doll giveaway. The final piece could then be getting Geno back at DH, and that offense I could see being potent. At that point, they will just need health on the mound.

Interesting deep dive on Marte in AAA.
A very fair assessment of Marte. FYI Stewart today at 3B has made 2 very good plays. Imagine that, a 3B who cannot only field but hit. He is 3-4 so far today. Hayes is currently hitting .143. He weighs 215 so not even hitting his weight.
Averaging about 6 walks per 9 innings pitched. He will fit right in! ![]()
Fernando Tatis Jrâs case against Big Leauge Advance was dismissed on Friday. When he was 18 he signed a contract with the investment firm to pay him $2 million in exchange for 10% of his MLB earnings.
This might be an added reason why Elly has been hesitant to sign an extension to buy out his arbitration time, he also has one of these deals and was possibly waiting to see if Tatis would win his case.
Woooooow. Thatâs a bad deal. Probably predatory. Tatis is 2nd gen player, he should have had better guidance.
Time to bring up Edwin Arroyo
Then he will get 30 AB and they will trade him to the Marlins for a pitcher with a 7.40 ERA and 1.7 WHIP!!
This Paddock guy sucks. Hope Greene and Lodolo are back soon so they can send him packing to the paddock!!
I like this because if Arroyo can handle 2B defensively, and can hit, then Reds have an alternative to McClain at 2B and his weak hitting for 2 years now. And hopefully Elly is on the injured list no more than 10 days!
The timeline for De La Cruzâs return is 2-4 weeks. Hopefully will be on the lower end, but most important is for him to be healthy and not hurting the team while playing through it like last year.
This does afford the Reds a great chance to see what Arroyo has before they make a decision on McLain. I personally would send McLain to the minors if Arroyo can handle the bigs. Shoulder injuries are finicky and I donât want to dump him yet.
This team has had awful luck, both with injuries and underperformance so far this year. But on the bright side, Steer is looking real good this year, and we have Bleday under contract until the 2029 season, and he is looking like he is breaking out as well. Lowe has been serviceable in his role, which leaves CF and the other side of the platoon for Lowe (the players are playing all around the diamond, with Stewart and Suarez handling 3B since Hayes left, so hard to say the position exactly)
This team would look really promising right now if we had Greene and Lodolo and Lowder pitching more, and the relievers pitching less. Maybe they can go on a run when all those guys are back and pitching, though it may coincide with Burns being shut down or rested to manage his innings. His absolute limit is probably 150IP, and he is already at 64, about a third of the way through the season. And if the team wants him available in the playoffs, they may only let him get to around 110 before putting him into the bullpen or having a phantom IL stint to keep that number down.
As a Cardinals and Guardians fan my sample size of the Reds this year is limited, but the Reds just arenât a fundamentally sound baseball team. Nice seats Blues.
Quite a day watching Benson strike out 4 times, Moll launch a throw to third into LF, and MCClain boot a sure out. On the plus side the Cardinals Club buffet was excellent as was the Bloody Mary.
Blues, I assume your daughter has that book cover hiding âBill James Baseball Abstractâ.
