Too bad. I guess I erroneously thought that being selected for a somewhat pretigious postseason tournament like the NIT might somehow entice our players to want to stay as our program would appear to be more relevant. What do I know??
It was the most Iāve laughed in 20 years of Hawktalk.
Man to be a 1L in law school againā¦
=>Not getting NIT invite anyway. Unless literally everyone declines.
Team is walking wounded right now.

For what its worth
=>The @Devilgrad is correct. Portal has fucked all of this up. Rosters are in flux and coaches are not hired and fired based on NIT or CIT results.
It is a shame.
I think maybe they got a little smarter with The Crown being a few weeks away yet. It gives teams a few weeks to sort things out in a way that is similar to what football has to do with bowl games during portal season
TCU declines postseason bids
The difference between the MAC postseason football and basketball is amazing
Football got 6-7 teams in and all seemed semi interested and I think Miami had an amazing success in Tuscon
MAC basketball gets one team in the 68 field- a 13 seed playing in Seattle on Tru Tv. Nobody else seemingly wants or needs the other tournaments
Football is heading that direction. If the playoff goes to sixteen teams, a lot of of the secondary bowl games will die.
Mol: you might remember when but I seem to recall that one year the MAC actui had 3 teams in the NIT. I honestly canāt tell you when that happened.
Used to be an NIT invite for a NCAA spurned mid-major offered an opportunity to show they deserved to be in the big Show⦠apparently not anymore.
No mid-majors are turning down an NIT bidā¦
Including us??
Correct. We would 100% accept if asked
Much of the value of second-tier bowls or postseason tourneys for a long time was that it gave teams the opportunity for extra practices. With the portal creating such dramatic roster turnover every year that benefit has a lot less value.
NIT Finals are held at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Been there once when Miami lost to Butler in the 2006 NIT on a put back with 1 or 2 seconds to go
=>4 actually in 2005.
Thanks for reminding me of that TCU debacle
There was a time in the 90s and early 2000s when the MAC was towards the top of the mid major hierarchy. I still think our top 4ish teams are good compared to peers, but our bottom has fallen off a cliff and its killed our NET rankings and other metrics.
The NIT especially when scrapping to fill the field arenāt watching game tape and studying the teams. They are pretty much sorting by rankings. It puts us in a bad spot with our NET in the 150s this year.
Wow!
Surprised we moved up so little in the NET rankings after we beat the Kent a third time. Something like from 146 to 141.
