The junior is in good academic and social standing?
Unfortunately academic and social standing aren’t factors in many coaches decisions. It is was Ballcoach says, “we are overcommitted and have too many at your position and we have to trim.” It used to be that coaches would try to help place players, that is rarely the case now. Coaches are too busy buying to bother with selling. This is not dissimilar to what has gone on in baseball for years with limited scholarships. It can be a cruel world.

Cutting players from teams’ rosters even happens at D3 schools. New “hot prospect” recruits replace kids in the existing roster all the time as coaches try to build competitiveness.
The saving grace at D3 is there are no athletic scholarships. If kids are receiving financial aid it’s because they’re getting it based on financial need.
These grants remain in place regardless of whether a kid remains on a sports team or not. That model might actually be more beneficial to FBS student athletes.

CB Jayden Williams stepped into the portal today. Transferred to Miami from USC. Saw limited playing time in 2023.
Nine four stars and one five star jumped in the portal today. That has to be NIL shopping right? All but one four star are P4 players.

Hurts to lose a player this late in the portal, but not losing any real depth-he got hurt last summer and never really comtibuted.

The Boone situation shows how these NIL “agents” are screwing kids. Boone had a nice NIL deal an Louisville. His agent wanted to shop around to see if he could get more money somewhere else. He hit the transfer portal again and it turns out with his short stint at Louisville he didn’t have the credits to get in somewhere else. At one point last week, it actually looked like his only option was going to be going back to Toledo. Seems like UCF figured something out, but I’m guessing he didn’t get that pay raise he was hoping for.

I can see a case for Lewis needing to rebuild the entire offense from the studs up, given that he most certainly doesn’t try to win games 6-3 like Brady Hoke did.
