Looking at the seat map, it appears NW gave Miami about 250-300 tickets to sell through the NW website.
I certainly hope there is more to the story. Maybe a check for 4,700 seats at $94 each, or $441,800. Yea, right.
Providing us with 250-300 tickets is a material breach of the contract entered into by both parties years ago. It is definitely injurious to us as we lose an opportunity to use the game in an effort to build alumni/booster support and, with a big win, see our donations increase to the program.
But to be honest, I’m tired of beating this dead horse. I hope NWern returns to it’s previous years of 1-2 wins per year for a decade. If Bo was still around, he’d score 70 on them for screwing us.
In the likely event that Northwestern doesn’t have enough Port-o-Johns in place I suggest (in addition to financial compensation for lost or less tickets), one “free” public urination per fan per half, preferably on any nearby NU or Wildcat logo.
@D-Day After hours of scouring the interwebs I can’t find any trace of where Jamie Taylor went to high school. I do remember being exceptionally proud that a fellow Mustang was playing DB for Miami and I’m going to continue to believe that was Jamie Taylor. Or, he might have gone to Princeton.
Free draft beer for Miami fans, too.
Who is in and where are your seats? A fellow MU fan and I just got ours (despite my animus toward NW) but are in row 22. I assume this is in the Miami “section”.
Still crickets on what we are to receive from NW in return for their breach of the agreement regarding the number of tickets we would receive. Does anyone know more about our compensation for said breach?
I might have missed it but has NW breeched the contract?
Found out the Chicago alumni chapter is not buying tickets & getting a group together for the game. They have 3 watch parties in bars around the city. I would think the athletic dept would try to coordinate an event with the local chapter. Another missed opportunity!
According to reports, the appearance contract for the game, which was entered into several years ago, provided us with 5,000 tickets for the game. Having been to several games there and knowing the size of our student/alumni base in the Chicago area, we always appeared to have 5,000, or more, Miami fans. However, after the new stadium build was approved after some delays, they have had to put together a temporary stadium that only seats ~14,500. According to comments on MHT we received between 250-300 tickets.
I believe that if these facts are correct, NW’s limitation of seats for us is a material breach of the contract. It is unfortunate as our attendance in the past has been very good. It’s a great opportunity to reach out to our student/alumni base in the Chicago metro area. An opportunity lost.
So yes, I think we are entitled to some form of compensation either by additional appearance fees, bball games, maybe even a home fball game, for free, from them. But I, unfortunately, have little faith that we will insist on some benefit returned to us. I hope I am wrong.
Typically the Miami alumni office takes the lead on athletic related events (e.g., pre-game tailgates at away games, etc), so I’m sure they helped coordinate the three watch parties around Chicago for local alumni. In their defense (as well as in defense of the athletic department) I would argue that NU’s relatively last minute choice of venue for the game, as well as the presumably limited amount of space around NU’s temporary stadium largely prevented the alumni office from organizing any game day events at the temporary stadium. To me, this is all on Northwestern, not Miami.
Meanwhile, I got an email today offering ND tickets in both the upper and lower Miami sections. Surprised we haven’t sold out our allocation.
With your experience in legal related stuff/contracts I believe your POV more than say mine as all I know about law I learned from Ben Matlock (modesty alert: he taught me a lot). That said, wouldn’t the contract include contingencies?
Y#5–It probably does. Many contracts have a clause called “force majeure” which provides that a party may be relieved from performance due to an unforeseen or reasonably uncontrolled event that makes performance impossible. Such as if a meteor hit the stadium a week before the game.
Here, the destruction of Ryan Field and having to find an alternate site for the game was not just foreseeable, but was planned well in advance of the date of the game. I don’t think there is any chance they could invoke this clause, if the contract contains it, which is very, very likely. So, NW, you are SOL.
Thanks for the context!
If true that may not be enough tix to cover the player parents & travel party. Usually around 3-400 tix. Doubtful any fan tix will be offered.
Here is my read on the situation. Miami sent an email on Friday afternoon with a link to buy tickets directly from Northwestern. I opened the email right away and estimated there were 400 tickets available on the seat map (rows 17-28 in sections N1 and N2).
Consdering DICK posted that he bought his tickets Friday morning, then it’s safe to assume parents of players, traveling party and VIP’s like DICK were able to obtain their tickets in a presale. This presale likely included rows 5-16 of sections N1 and N2, which would be approximately 400 additional tickets. This aligns with the estimate of a typical Miami travel party provided by FlySouth.
Currently, there are 200 tickets still available from Northwestern in the Miami block, which means we have only sold 200 tickets since the email went out Friday afternoon and have sold roughly 600 total tickets including the VIP’s. So before we bitch too much about lack of tickets and breach of contract, let’s start by selling out our block of seats. And who knows, maybe our AD has the option to request additional tickets from Northwesten after we sell out our initial block of 800.
If anyone didn’t get the email from Miami and is looking for tickets, use the link below and enter code “MIAMI24”

I agree with what you are saying but I don’t think there has been an official announcement form either Miami or NW that we were not provided access to 5000 tickets.
This is so on brand for Miami. This is the equivalent of Miami students going to Brick Street when there is a game at Yager.
I understand the “don’t bitch” part of your post. But I believe that many people who would normally go to the game are put off by NW handling of this situation. And, as Dick said, the ticket prices are about double what they were last year. And that’s for a seat in an end zone of a temporary, glorified high school stadium. The only reason I am going is because my best Miami buddy wants to go, it’s pretty cheap to get and stay there, I’m 73 so I have to do things now when I still can, and I am very excited for what I hope/believe will be a great year for us. Otherwise, I would stay home and watch the game and get Chinese for dinner.
