NIU at Miami game thread

still need to beat BG next week. That H2H tiebreaker will decide which of us get to go

It really doesn’t seem to matter. The loser of the game tonight won’t be able to jump us… but the winner could, if we don’t beat BG.

As far as rooting interests today, I think we want Buffalo to lose (to get them out of any multiway tiebreaks as OU beat them) and OU to win (to get Toledo out of any multiway tie breaks as we lost to Toledo).

Then, if we can’t take care of business, we would still have a shot to end in a tie with OU who we hold the head to head with if Ball State beats them in the final week. I think having BG at X-1 and Miami and OU as the only X-2 teams is the simplest path for Miami if we lose. Would have to do some major number crunching on head-to-heads and common opponents to see if there is a way to get in through a multi-way tie.

Nice win. Don’t get the offense play calling in the 2nd half. Made game closer than it should have been.

I was born there lol, my family moved to the St. Louis area when I was 4. From what I hear it’s still got a lot of problems but has turned some things around.

A win is a win. Besides the late drive our defense was dominant, offense did enough to get a lead that we could maintain. Should’ve been a more comfortable win but Chuck gonna Chuck.

They like their featured games to be available to the entire nation. So last night’s game started at 5:00 on the West Coast and ended a little after 8:30.

The whole stupid bracket reveal also contributed 99% to the kickoff time

It ended up being a fairly comfortable win but games like that kinda drive me crazy when we completely outplay an opponent for almost the entire game yet allow them to hang within one score at some point.

But it was what we needed! A win! Chuck style!

I didnt understand Chuck’s postgame talking about what big underdogs we are going to be vs BG. I would think it will be a very tight spread.

Both teams are on a roll in MAC play. I would think BG might be favored by a FG at home but no more. This assumes they beat BSU first.

He can use whatever he wants as motivation if it leads to a win.

We tried to throw it in the third quarter but their pass rush was overwhelming our line and Gabbert had no time to throw. Must have been some great halftime adjustments by NIU.

I think Hammock is a great coach. Gotta be him, Chuck and Candle in the Wind as the top 3 in the MAC. Ps, hats off to Joe Morehead. Akron got a lot better.

However the comfort factor quickly subsided while driving back to Springboro after the game. The fog was brutal to go along with fear of hitting a deer along the way. I hate night games in November.

I don’t think the outcome of Ohio vs Toledo matters. If we beat BG we are in the Title game, but if we lose, then a 7-1 Ohio goes or between a tie with Ohio, Toledo and Miami at 6-2, the tie breaker I think goes to Toledo. Toledo would be 2-0 against us and Ohio at that point.

Now if all of Buffalo, Toledo , Ohio and Miami are 6-2, I have no idea who gets picked.

Or maybe Ball State can upset BGSU Saturday and then it really gets bizarre.

My kid watched it in SF.

It matters in the scenario I outlined which I think is the best way Miami still makes it with a loss: if OU wins tonight and then loses vs Ball St, the #2 spot would be a tie just between Miami and OU at 6-2 (Toledo would be 5-3).

If BG loses to Ball St, it opens up possibilities for us to make it in at 6-2. If BG wins that game, we would need a lot of help to make it in with a loss.

The non-bracket bracket reveal.

I’m not sure why they’ve decided to turn what is literally just bracketology into a TV show. Joe Lunardi has done the same thing with a mythical if-the-season-ended-today bracket each week for years without taking up an hour of legitimate TV time.

Some teams muck up the game.

We Chuck up the game. But Chucking up (at least in this way) usually works out in the end.
