That was so much goddamn fun to attend.
Off the charts fun - we won without Suttle, Eli and Strader on D - and no Mozze second half and no Virgil and Tracy due to the portal - a great kick ass win - stoked for next year!
I know Gracie Doane, the very embodiment of MothercMismi, has to be rolling !!
I’m sorry, our special teams coordinator got hired away, so ST for this game was coached by four players under the supervision of 2 GAs? Amazing.
Apparently. Confirmed: full-time coaches are overrated.
Sounds like a Vardity Blues situation except the coaches are liked and respected by the players
“A big-time program doesn’t take that long to return to the postseason and a big-time program wins in the postseason.”
This writer thinks joining up with two former P5 programs makes them big-time?
I told Red Sea at halftime that I was feeling pretty confident even though we were only up 9-3. CSU really hadn’t shown anything in the 1st half that had me concerned. Ran into Alex towards the end of halftime and we both agreed that we should have been up by more.
Overall, it was a great game, great win and great experience. I’m happy for the team, especially the seniors. One more full day here for some desert hiking and then home. The former Columbia cheerleader got some great videos during pregame and halftime that I’ll try to post once I’m home. Sorry I didn’t get to see Dick, and theChuck2112 and all the Chuckettes.
Oh, and I hope skin66 ran around in the Fort Collins bar yelling “3 and 0!”.
I asked my daughter if she thought wearing my Miami sweatshirt to church this morning would be too much. She gave me one of those looks only daughters can give. Oh well, seems as if my bright red sweater will have to do. When we great those around us to pass the peace, Love and Honor may escape my lips.
I know it’s one game in bowl season where all teams not in the playoffs have portal challenges, but I thought our backups and especially freshmen played very well.
We have and have had the last few years some good players in the 1st or 2nd years that maybe we were not getting in the past. P4 seems like they would rather take portal players instead of developing freshmen. Obviously not the 5 stars but certainly the good 3 stars, maybe this is a good strategy going forward? Add a couple P4 guys like we have done and here we go, our own coach Cal program, instead of them leaving for the NBA, they just go P4.
My proposal: Our pitch is to develop players for the next level whatever that means to the player. Maybe some modest NIL for freshmen that are not pursued hard by P4 but are potential difference makers and should be starters. Some NIL for P4 guys that are not playing at their current school and want to showcase their talents.
Seems like there is a play here to middle this portal/NIL world in our favor. Kinda goes along with the “cradle” reputation. It will take a team approach, but that has always been our approach, no change there, just a mindset and maybe a little more donor money?
Not sure what our NIL budget is or could be, but thinking 5-10 players in the $20-$50,000 would be a decent target for us?
I’m so happy our seniors got to out on a dominant winning note. They have been so much fun to watch over the last number of years. I’m grateful I got to talk briefly with Salopek and Chuck at last year’s Monsoon Bowl. Bonus: Chuck as Grand Marshal of the one-float Snoop Dogg parade!
I was a bit concerned that CSU would break out since they had some decent skill players, thankfully their staff kept calling inside runs into the strength of our D and medium passes that their QB wasn’t hitting. Kudos to players and staff for keeping their composure and adjusting at halftime, then pouring it on. Shoutout to Snoop for suggesting to Chuck at halftime that we go up-tempo, then we actually executed it really well.
Shame that the game happened the same time as Bengals/Broncos and the same day as Pop-tart Bowl (also meme gold, with the Cam Ward drama) to overshadow this nationally. Regardless, a wonderful cap to the season and seeing some of the young guys succeed is hopefully a foreshadowing for a good 2025. See you in Madison this Labor Day.
P S-their church is one block from the CSU campus.
Heading out of town and stopping at the Desert Museum on the way. What a great weekend! Glad I got to see @muhawk for a bit on Saturday as well. Sorry to have missed the rest of you!
Hope you enjoy the Desert Museum. My lovely wife and I visited it several years ago.
Congratulations winning the first every Snoop DogG Bowl!!! Snoop DogG did make the game very enjoyable to watch with his compassion, time in the booth and on the field.
I used to go to a small church where easily 75% of us were Miami grads. About 10 years ago, I wore the sweatshirt that I got for Christmas '94 to church. My Mom was embarrassed I was wearing a 20 year old sweatshirt. I laughed when everyone loved it and wanted to know where I got it…
