Jermaine Henderson

Cleve Wright had never been a D1 coach.

There has been no move that made Saylor look more like a rank amateur than the Cleve Wright hire.

Henderson would of been a real good fit back in Oxford. If Steel doesn’t work out, it may be time to bring back members of the last connection to the greatest era in Miami hoops.

But in fairness Wright had previously been a long time successful D2 head coach, and after his failed stint at Miami went back to his winning ways at that lower level…not sure why his coaching never translated to D1…maybe a poor recruiter…I dunno.

Quit dissing on Henderson.

If he wants to dis Henderson, he can. This, a Miami University sports forum in a thread titled with his name seems like the appropriate place to do so. People call for Chuck’s head when he goes 6-6. I don’t think there’s anything wrong in questioning how ready an assistant who hasn’t had a winning season in ~13 years is to be a head coach.

Did you not read post #5 on this thread (above) where DICK wrote a very long post in support of Jermaine.

Dick & Jermaine have known each other for a very long time and are on good terms.

People should be calling for Chuck’s head when the team goes 6-6 or something close to that. He’s a mediocre coach who can’t win a non-conference game of any meaning whatsoever. And it’s not like we dominate the MAC.

Martin is just good enough to keep his job but bad enough to not lead the team anywhere.

Not to thread jack, although that appears to be the trend, but chuck has gone 6-2, 4-4, 6-2, 6-2, 2-1 and 5-3 the last 6 years in the MAC.

I’ll be the first to complain about the occ losses, but it’s hard to argue his results have been mediocre.

College basketball is my first love. I’d love for Miami basketball to be as competitive in the mac as chuck has been. Football has been in the hunt for the conference title almost every year. Basketball hasn’t been even once for a decade plus.

Don’t we have the best record against the MAC over the past 4 or 5 seasons? I would say that’s dominating. And didn’t we just win a bowl game? Would say that’s an OOC game that counts.

That’s not good enough but an assistant coach with a sub .400 win percentage over the last decade is?

That point is getting kind of old. Win - loss records go on the head coaches record. Not the assistants. The arbitrariness of posting and picking only the years where he worked for coaches with a subpar program and ignoring the years where he worked for a coach running a really strong program is simply unfair. You and Quinoaburger seem to share the same idea that basketball began 15 years ago and anything before that doesn’t count. That is a very arrogant take, and not something that I think most posters would agree with. I know that I do not agree with it at all. Maybe 30 or 50 years from now you will feel differently about something that happened 20 or 25 years previous.

I hope I’m not on here in 2035 calling for Joe Palcic to get hired as head football coach because of how good our special teams unit was in 2018.

Apples to oranges… I suggested once that it would be a good idea to close this thread after Mr. Steele was named head coach. It would still be a good idea. Continuing this discussion is divisive and it looks like it will continue to be divisive. No new points are being made. If you want to continue to attack a coach that you never saw work and know nothing about, I will continue to say you are wrong because I think you are. Evidently there are others who will do the same. Just close this thread and we can all move on.

Yeah, I think this has run its course.

Jesus christ. It’s a conversation about a former Miami assistant. If people want to keep having the discussion on a Miami fan message board, it seems like exactly the sort of thing this site was designed to host, regardless of whether or not the head coaching position was filled. If you think the discussion has run its course, you can just stop posting. Others may feel the same… or they may not.

I just want to know if the statute of limitations has run on charging John Cooper with grand theft.

Yep, I’m not going to lock it. Steele’s introductory thread still has people saying it should’ve been Henderson. They can do that here.

I have had to remove a couple posts because personal attacks were being made, so stay civil.

I was driving my car this morning and reflecting on the calls for Henderson being MU’s head coach, when it hit me that Miami’s basketball team’s high-water mark insofar as me being a fan was over 22 years ago.

22 years have passed since Miami had a competitive team. PATHETIC.

Not Quite - in 2007 Miami was in the NCAA tourney and came within inches of beating 3 seed Oregon on the west coast losing 58 to 56 as Michael Bramos’ 3 point shot at the buzzer just missed.
