Jermaine Henderson

Yeah, and that was in the middle of a run of 18 win seasons. And right after that run we went 11-5 in conference play.

Ok, make it 15 years ago. Still SUPER long time ago.

You misremember. We were down 5 and Bramos did hit a 3 at the buzzer to make it a 2 point game.

This is hilarious. You are dragging a football coach who just won a bowl game and finished with the #1 recruiting class in the MAC. And you are doing it in a basketball thread.

Yeah but Bramos missed a 3 on the previous possession with like 10 seconds to go that came up just short.

I rewatched the end of that game recently for the first time since actually being in Spokane. It’s funny how vivid my memory was of some of the plays and how some of the sequences I had absolutely no recollection of.

I would have laughed at anyone who told me that day that, 15 years later, we wouldn’t have been back to the MAC finals, let alone the dance.

A couple of other random notes about that Oregon game:

  • Kenny Payne, who is now the head coach of Louisville, was an assistant for Oregon.

  • When Oregon hit a FT with three seconds left to go up two possessions, the CBS cameras flashed to our bench and Ryan Pedon looked legitimately sick to his stomach about the outcome. I mean, I was too sitting in the crowd, but Pedon really wore it. I loved that dude.

Ron was just pure joy to watch. Even when he had less mobility, he still played so smart.

Serious question: Henderson hasn’t played at Miami in nearly 30 years, and hasn’t coached at Miami in over a decade. Why the hard-on for this guy to come to Miami and coach? Like, what’s the value-add?

(Not meant as a diss.)

This is like when the brawl at the Palace had died down and then some dude came out of nowhere and fired a full cup of beer at Ron Artest’s head.

Seriously, there is an entire thread dedicated to this, with plenty of pros and cons. Read it. There is no reason for any of us to have to list all our opinions again.

Ok – just wondered if there was any consensus on this. One side said he is not HC material, another side said he’d be better than the last 2 coaches Miami hired. If the truth lies somewhere in the middle, then looks like Miami made the right call.

Well, the people who were big fans when he was here pretty much loved him and thought he would be great. That included the players at that time. The younger people who were here after our glory years think he would be a stupid hire because the schools he got hired at as an assistant were not having much success. Not really much neutral ground in between those opinions. None of us think the truth lies somewhere in between, lol.

Well, obviously the AD disagreed.
