Jackson State at Miami Tuesday at 7 on ESPN+

Hope you saw the video of crowd today at Brick Street during the US World Cup win. That same energy could be at Millett if this program plays its cards right. Every home win gets them closer.

So true! Make the fan experience stunningly fun. It really isn’t that hard. Easier if we get a new home base but seriously (Phil Collins reference) we might draw 3k this year if we start winning.

I believe you call what Anderson did tonight as ā€œstat stuffingā€-12 points, 7 boards, 7 assists! That is getting it done. If he can do that every game, we are going to win a lot.

Cool stat: everyone who took a shot tonight at least made half of their attempts. The good ball movement continued throughout the 2nd half. I don’t think Jackson St. played any more zone which was surprising. Our best defense was our offense. It seemed that Steele took the offensive advantage of playing small without Rylee over the defensive disadvantage that created since Rylee doesn’t look at the basket unless he’s in close. Smith has a great shooting pocket and is textbook with not bringing the ball below his waist when he catches it. Mabrey’s shot looks better. His footwork in his shot looks better, much more in line with the shot instead of kicking them sideways. Overall, the team benefitted from a week of practice and has learned from the 1st set of games.

But, Jackson St.'s 3 point field goal shooting defense is in the bottom 20 of Division 1 and who knows when they were last home. Any win for this team is good as they try to get some confidence before conference play. Saturday will be interesting to see how we’ve progressed. Indiana State is in the range of Marshall.

If affordable for fans then that’s progress. I like the idea of a college kid walking 20 mins to get to the game and spending 50 bucks or less while having a good time. For a family, under 45 min drive is the sweet spot and under 125 for parking, tickets, and food. If there’s money left over in my equation, create inexpensive merch. Wearing the M logo = walking billboard for MU.

Just a quick comment as I just got home and I have to get up tomorrow. Eli Yofan and Bryson Tatum are out of the regular rotation. This was the first time all year that Lewis and Safford both played in the same game. This was a big jump forward. Ryan Mabry has really picked up his performance since he started coming off the bench, just in time t o keep him in the regular rotation.

Indiana State is mostly 5th year Seniors and are one of two favorites to win the MVC. This will be a big challenge for us Saturday and could be a great win for us if we can get it. Maybe we can.

Fwiw, ISU was picked 7th in the MVC preseason poll.

I think we would be remiss in not pointing out how unselfish Lairy has been in his passing the last couple games.

I really do think this team we have seen the last 2 games, would beat Evansville were we to play again.

no doubt…and to be fair sounds like Jackson St. was dealing with what Miami has been and continues to deal with, lots of guys out…we also beat Arkansas minus Lewis…if we can ever get to a full roster, will be interesting to see what we can do.

We played Indiana St. to a one point loss last year…totally different team, but Lairy still a big part of the game…ISU is off to a good start against bad teams.

Yes- that is his main job

They pass well.

Also, ISU plays a solid Drake team tonight. I will be watching.

Drake is well coached and the pride of Des Moines Iowa. Strong support.

Yes it will be interesting to see how they fair against Drake, a solid program for sure.

Our D needs to improve, I don’t love Anderson hedging out up top…just because his recovery on D at 300+ is not great, despite his nimble feet…and the fact that some of our younger guys don’t recognize the cut and help D.

But with Lairy, MO, Anderson and Lewis in the starting five, we have experience…and Billy, my guy (ironically Jack’s recruit…credit due)…he’s beyond his years (very poised). Really like what Billy and Lewis bring as they are compliments on wing/off guard spots.

…add Kamari, Etzler and Harrison (hopefully) and we have some depth and more scoring/rebounding.

This player movement offense does not require a PG to do a lot of creating. Everything starts with pass to high post and movement from there. Steele has buy in from players and they are seeing results last two games. Incredible assists to baskets made %. With everyone healthy expectations will be high for MAC conference play.
