Also, since your fairway shots have been inconsistent, start hitting your tee shots into the rough… oh wait… never mind.

I second working on putting (and chipping). Put the fairway troubles to the back of your mind for a while.

Exciting finish. Rory hit his second shot (OT) just past the pin and it rolled back towards the hole.

Short’s shot was just in front of the pin and it rolled away from the pin. Was he trying to hit it longer but was short?

As for my golf…I finally realized that when you hit a 5-wood on the fairway, you need to stand slightly further from the ball compared to hitting a hybrid.

I’m 40. I obvisouly have no memory of Jack winning in ‘86, so I guess I’m not sure how this compares.

This was better than ‘97. Better than the Tiger slam in ‘01. Better than ‘04 when Phil won (watched every shot in Dorsey Hall). Better than ‘05 with the Tiger chip in then beating DiMarco in a playoff. Better than ‘17 when Sergio won in a playoff. Better than Tiger winning in ‘19.

This was an unbelievable final round, and I screamed when Rory made the putt in the playoff to win.

I don’t know if I’ve ever watched a Masters final round like that before. The momentum swings were incredible. I’m happy that Rory won. I think this will free him up to win more majors.

I will put Tiger '19 and Phil '04 in front of it only because the golf in both of those final rounds was better. Tiger got off to a slow start but he played flawlessly the last 12 holes and held off the pack that came hard at him at the end: Kopeka, Johnson, Xander. Phil got off to a slow start but he played flawlessly the last 12 holes or so, especially that back 9. The way this one played out will motivate Tiger to come back and think he can still win because of all the mistakes that were made. Scottie Scheffler must be kicking himself because he had a pretty poor ball-striking week for him and he still only finished 3 behind.

It’s the one major course where historically you can still win even as you age. Granted, it’s getting tougher as the length has increased, but I find it pretty great Langer and Freddy almost made the cut as I could see Rory here in 30 years still competing. It’s the only sport you can improve at in life as you age. Very cool.

This was a much firmer and tougher Augusta than both those final rounds. Also the pin on 16 in that top right corner was much harder than the traditional funnel pin.

Rory’s wedges (except for the one in the playoff) were God awful. The scoopy flare into Rae’s creek on 13 was mindbogglingly bad. That said, the slinging hook into 15 when he was reeling was incredible. The 9 iron into 17 also incredible. The wedge into 18 in the playoff, after what happened in regulation, also insane.

Rose lit the back 9 on fire. Patrick Reed freaking hooped one to stay in the tournament. This was unreal.

April of ‘86, much of Reid Hall was buzzing. We risked missing out on Sunday dinner to watch the end of The Masters. Jack had a niece who lived in Symmes that year. It was a nice day and all the dorm windows were open, so you could hear the shouting from all the other rooms.

Jack was masterful (pun intended), especially the back 9. Was the course playing easier than today? Maybe. Did Jack need others to falter in order to win? Yes. But there was nothing like watching his back 9 charge and the corresponding deafening roar of the patrons. Now, the ending was nowhere near as exciting as today was, since Jack finished a couple of holes ahead. Both supremely memorable, and this one will still be talked about 40 years from now, just like the ‘86 tournament.
