I played Yankee on Tuesday afternoon. The sand traps have little sand left in them and the ball comes flying out
Is that the old Jack Nicklaus course? Maybe renamed? They had a par three called “The Bruin”
Eddie—We’ve always played by “family rules”….one mulligan per nine and only off the tees. Minor scooches on the fairway ok and allowed in the rough if no one is looking ![]()
I mean what the f! When you have a handicap that’s 25+ screw ‘em if they want to get on your case.
Correct. I think only the original 18 survives as the tennis tournament took over much of the grounds in their recent expansion.
I’ve played it before, and to me only #17 and #18 were cool. Apparently Nicklaus doesn’t like the design, his first, and no longer allows the course to use his name in the title (used to be called The Jack Nicklaus Golf Center, with the Grizzly course the primary attraction).
Trevino is great and the 7 o’clock tip is gold. Other videos that have helped my ball striking are from coaches of 2 of the best ball strikers of all time:
Randy Smith (Scheffler’s coach)
Sean Foley (Tiger’s old coach)
The little nugget Foley drops about keeping the right arm straight in the backswing, which is the opposite of conventional wisdom, has been a game changer for me. Getting width in your backswing and striking the inside of the ball seem to be the two biggest keys to hitting it solid consistently.
If I ran social for MU, I’d post developmental technique tips from all the sports. Golf team gives you tips on putting. Would be very good content. A lot of youth coaches are alumni. Makes a stronger connection with the teams.
Last month, our son played in a FedEx St Jude (Memphis) charity event at a local country club. His partner was the son of the late Fred Smith (I believe it was Richard Smith) and the brother of Steelers Coach Arthur Smith!
Your kid can play. I bet they had a nice round.
Mr. Smith shot a 76 and son shot a 77. Not sure which tees though.
I am gonna say back. At their level seems probable.
I died today. It’s an old Jim Bouton reference to getting sent down to the Minors.
In golf terms, I died.
I shot a 113 (58 and 55) at Yankee Trace. Yea…temperature was in the 40s and wind was kicking up from the mid-20s into the 30s.
But it was awful. No drive further than 145 yards and all aspects of my game sucked. Ball seemed to travel 25% less on most shots. Slushy fairway ate a lot of my divots.
Back at it Wednesday and it’s time for a few more lessons after a year-layoff (from lessons).
My kid is taking lessons and he is working hard on some stuff but it takes time. Last round we played, he hit like crap. I told him he’s now a round closer to playing great, so I’ll say the same to you.
Those are not conditions to worry about your score. Be happy you got out.
Well I shoot in the low 70s.
If it’s any colder, I just stay home. ![]()
