Georgia thread

Mabrey’s defense is average at best. We’ve had 3 games with three extremely slow starts, and it’s not until Mabrey goes to bench that we seemingly get going. Coincidence? I keep hearing the hype about his shooting, but at the moment that’s all it is… hype. I’m not saying don’t play him, but it seems to me that until his shooting lives up to the hype he’s more of a liability than asset.

I missed the 24-10 part of the game but I thought Mabrey looked good in the second half

Just needs to keep hitting “mid range”…looks so much better there, maybe treys will come, but right now not hitting.

I think coming off bench might help Mabrey.

I forget, did we out recruit Duke for Mabrey?

Three games. A freshman.

Well, maybe he is playing great in practice and keeps earning the start. But in the exhibition game and all 3 real games, Yofan has played quite a bit better. Second half last two games Ryan has player better, but he is the biggest reason we are playing badly to start the games and then Yofan comes in and gets us going. So there is the basic rule of fairness that you play the guys who have earned the minutes by their performance. If Ryan is as good as his videos showed then eventually he will get there, whether he comes off the bench or starts.

It is the least of our worries though, physicality of our forwards and shooting guards inside the paint is our current area of weakness.

Not unhappy with the result. We fought hard. Yofan, Morris, Smith should be regulars in the rotation. We need Williams and Stafford.

Lairy’s 34 the most since Bramos’ 36 against Dayton his senior year?

Contribution from Harrison and/or Etzler will be key if they are healthy…these guys can help on the boards…

I am optimistic of where this is headed.

I am already seeing progress and development over three games.

This team seems to have a higher “compete” level than Owens teams. There is more defensive intensity and energy. Still too many breakdowns on defense but I am hoping that will be corrected over time.

With Mirambeux and Lairy we potentially have a balanced inside out offensive presence we have not had in a long time.

I still expect it to be a tough year but there are pieces here to suggest that better times are ahead.

That’s the last time someone scored more than 34.

31: Bramos vs Ohio (3/1/08)
31: Bramos vs Northwestern St (12/6/08)
31: Weathers vs NKU (11/20/16)

If memory serves correct, Bramos was also our last All-American in basketball.

Anderson has to get more than 1 rebound.

I think my favorite element of the season is that I watched all of the Evansville and Georgia games and didn’t ask myself, “why am I watching these games?” Certainly we can take better care of the ball, but at least we’re playing like we care.

Do we have know more about when Curtis, Kamari, and Javin return? I’ve heard 3-4 weeks for Safford in here. Any info on the others?

I like the fact that - when Travis sees things going south - he immediately stops things and makes adjustments and he’s constantly teaching. We never saw that with Jack’s “let them play on” strategy.

Bryant, Valpo, and Washington according to 24/7 sports (with interest from Portland, Bradley, and George Washington).

I just looked it up and was shocked to find out that he only averaged 16 ppg that season. He had 4 games with 30+ points and 11 games with single digit points. Talk about a streaky scorer.

Steele described Kamari’s situation as TBD. I believe some on here have said if his situation doesn’t get resolved with the NCAA he will be back after the conclusion of the first semester so mid-December perhaps?

Based on what Steele said after Goshen it sounds like January for Javin and Curtis.

Good deal. Intrigued to see how we develop as the year goes on.

I think Steele said Curtis and Mo are back in a month and Javin is back for MAC play. Kamari is TBD pending NCAA approving our appeal OR he can get himself eligible at the end of this semester.

I am really enjoying watching this team play. Even though we are losing, it’s still exciting to watch and the energy on this team is high.

Having said that, the defense is bad. We have a long way to go on the pack line system. Georgia was getting any shot they wanted last night. They missed a ton of wide open 3’s.

Offensively, we’ve have two career performances from Anderson (Evansville) and Lairy (Georgia). If we don’t get those performances, both those games would have been a lot worse. Something to consider going forward is that we are not going to get individual performances like that on a regular basis.

True on the performances…but good news is there were many open looks missed by Miami, so the looks are there and the guys can or will make them.

D is a work in progress, effort is there, recognition not…at least at level you need.

Georgia was also shooting early at a clip that was not typical.

Anyway…pieces are there, we need 15+ from Lairy each night…if the roster is fully avail, then we have another 20+ of scoring coming our way.

PS Should have won that one, and I enjoyed Georgia’s commentators.
