That a bit anticlimactic…would like a shot at least

Basketball is fun again.

I know Toledo and EMU have really good looking teams this year, but for such a young bunch, I think we can compete for the upper half of the MAC this year.

That last unnecessary foul padded their lead by 2. They were running out the block. Saw Steele tell one of our assistants - apparently - to address it.

Yeah…just cleanup some passing, silly play…guys that can hit shots will hit them and we are missing a ton of players.

Not bad for missing two of your expected top scorers (Kamari and Safford) and all of frontcourt depth.

I know I missed this, but is safford out for the year or what’s his update? We can only play 5 guys, if we can get some guys healthy and play more we will win a few games. Excited for 2 years out

Lairy’s role is really going to be a game by game process and may be a frustrating one. In a perfect world he should have facilitated more at the end. But hey, 34 points…

Estimate was out for a month.

This PT for all these young guys is really going to build depth.

We are playing about 7-8 right now…and have 4 more on bench that are expected to play key minutes.

Seems like Rylee might be RS candidate depending on need.

All of our injured players are forwards, and we are just getting killed on our defensive board. That is what beat us vs both Evansville and Georgia. Oh for a stud power forward. When we have everybody healthy, we will probably play more forwards and fewer guards.

Mabrey needs more minutes on the bench.

Mabrey was I think 4 for 4 in the second half. Saturday he was 3 for 3 in the second half. I don’t think he has made a single shot in the first half in 3 games ( without looking it up).

I actually had a flight from Vegas to Atlanta and last minute just flew back to Columbus instead. Regretting that decision a little bit.

Morris is going to be the second coming of Lamont Hannah.

I’d say he needs the opposite. We need him in conference play. Why would we take minutes from a freshman who’s not excessively turning the ball over and will be one of the top 3 shooters on the team this year? He also does well on defense and I really liked that to get himself going, he started taking people off the dribble and hitting midrange shots. Shooters shoot and that’s what he needs to do.

Not ready to pile on Mabrey. He’s an emotional kid, probably down on himself. He’s played enough big time ball and will figure it out. I like his mid range game.

I thought tonight’s effort was very good for such a green team playing on their first road game and against a power conference opponent. It’s been encouraging to see that we’ve bounced back from slow starts and played better 2nd halves so far. Hopefully we’re past the praying that we’ll get hot from 3 and hope the other team misses from 3 we’ve had to experience under Cooper and Owens. Overall, it came down to too many missed opportunities at the basket in the 1st half, and too many offensive rebounds given up in the last 10 minutes.

We don’t need 34 point Mekhi Lairy every night, but we need him to be the alpha offensively, scoring and decision making. 1 assist to 6 turnovers needs to obviously be better. And he needs to be more consistent defensively. He shouldn’t get beat off the dribble as much as he does.

It was good to see Smith make big open shots. If Mabrey is going to play when we (hopefully) get healthier, he needs to make shots and at least play average defense. I thought Morris was good at being a nuisance inside, he bothered a lot of shots. The wings were good on defense. Georgia barely shot 40% even with their 2nd chance points.

Before we get excited, Georgia isn’t a good power 5 team. I think they would have trouble finishing in the top half of the MAC. They aren’t an impressive team.

Let’s see if we can bring the same kind of effort Thursday night at home vs. Marshall. If we can achieve consistency over longer stretches, then I’ll start to get excited. But I am encouraged at this point. Patience.
