“He is no longer with the team, and we wish him well in his future endeavors” seems the right approach to take.
Do we wish him well?
OK, I cussed out Coach after the Ohio game also. Certainty it was from the comfort of my own home and the only one present to hear my rant was my lovely wife, but I was pretty upset.
But you didn’t quit!
Precisely
And add “and I can’t comment further” to get the point across.
Do you know if he quit? I think more to come on this matter. In any event lets defer this discussion until after the season and beat UB and Ball State.
Calling Aveon a quitter for not playing in the bowl game, after he earned MACC Offensive player of the game two weeks earlier, is a bit odd, especially with what just happened with Finn. One fulfilled the team goal (helping Miami win a MAC title) while the other left his team in the middle of a MAC title chase.
Hey, they don’t call him DisloyalHawk.
To me, both quit. One (Finn) appears much more egregious than the other since it was mid season while we were still in the hunt for a title and bowl game.
I don’t believe I ever advocated Chuck calling him “an asshole”.
I have made an identical distinction. One quit during the regular season, the other left the team in post season play. I think it is an important and critical decision.
Bowls are borderline exhibition games with all the roster turnover and coaching changes you see. It’s not ideal but I understand why a transfer or pro-bound player won’t play in a bowl game with zero upside, comparing Aveon to Finn is comparing apples and chopped liver as far as I’m concerned.
I think they all fall in the bucket of quitting though. Different degrees…
The big difference here is that Aveon transferred knowing he didn’t have the starting job - or any reasonable assurance of playing time - in 2024. It was still Brett’s team and we were actively recruiting over Aveon for the back up roll. 2023 was legendary, but we’re still talking about someone that hasn’t been able to win an FCS starting job. Aveon, I presume, was a mutual parting of the ways as much as anything.
There is absolutely no comparison to a guy leaving the team with 2 games left to play in the midst of a MAC title race.
There’s literally hundreds of players each year in the past few years that “opted out” of bowl games. Even for QBs who are leaders, there’s been dozens of cases of guys not playing in bowls each year. They’ve moved the portal start date back to hopefully solve this as now all bowls (except CFP semis and finals) are before the window opens. We’ll see.
I can only think of 2 examples of guys abandoning their team in the middle of the year with conference titles hopes still alive:
Dequan Finn and Matt Sluka, who left UNLV last year due to NIL payment issues after starting 3-0.
At least with Sluka it was pure money issues and he left after only 3 games. To leave after 9 games…unheard of.
That’s the point of the message you wanted Chuck to deliver though
Not unlike comparing Alf to Freddy Kruger.
In either case - I’d hide the cat.
Again, at no point did I use the term or say CM should call him an asshole. I have never said that here or or my social media. And trust me, I hold little back on social media. It’s under my real name (Bruce Weingart) so feel free to look.
