Damn!
I canāt find this reported anywhere, do you have a link?
Damn, that hurts.
Feels like they never get out a camp injury freeā¦
Well, that sucks.
Any other major injuries we should be aware of. It really stinks not having any media cover the team - when your only coverage is from Miami you only learn what the coaches allow you to learn
Awful news
I hear you and am in the same boat. I heard the Reynolds news by happenstance and some well placed sources within Yager. But, as a general rule, Iām as clueless as anyone.
Appreciate you sharing. Sucks.
Anyone been to practice? curious how the qb comp is shaping up. They gota have an idea by now
I believe itās always been McCombās job to lose. Not based on anything but context clues.
The QB position preview was supposed to come out yesterday but I havenāt seen it posted yet. Not that I think it will unveil much ā last year, Chuck called Finn, Henson, and Gotkowski ā1A, 1B, and 1Cā in the position preview even though we all knew it was Finnās job.
Looking back to 2019, which is the last time we really entered a season not knowing our QB1, Chuck never gave any public indication that it was Gabbertās job until we took the field at Iowa. He always insinuated that Jackson Williamson was the incumbent and in the running to start (he never was).
All of this is to say: donāt expect our starter to be announced before Pitt. Thatās just not Chuckās style. If anything, heāll keep up the guise that all 3 of McComb, Heavner, and Gotkowski are actively competing to see snaps. But, I would bet both Chuck and the team already know who QB1 is.
I believe itās between McComb and Gotkowski with McComb having the lead. Iām not a fan of playing two QBs but I bet we see both against Pitt.
If you watch the position previews, it is pretty clear TG and McComb are getting all the first team snaps, split pretty evenly between them at this point.
Chuck was asked about it in the post-practice interview. He said itās a good battle between Gotkowski and McComb. No mention of Heavner.
I still think McComb has the lead. He was recruited in the off-season, and purportedly paid a good chunk of money, to be our QB. Chuck has obvious reservations about Gotkowski just based on how long it took him to bench Hesson last year. Iām not sure whether he completely allayed those reservations vs Buffalo and Ball State last year and Iām not sure we would have recruited McComb as heavily if he did.
No matter who it is, Chuckās style is to pick a guy and go. We havenāt purposefully played 2 QBs in a game since the 3-headed monster of Kummer, Bahl, and Ragland over a decade ago.
Whoever is best on the practice field should start. Period. Goes for every damn position.
Interesting that there is a #0 lined up in the backfield in todayās video. Thatās Keith Reynolds number. Not refuting Alexās report, just curious who that is (if not Reynolds).
Didnāt Gabbert and AJ Mayer split snaps a little bit at the beginning of 2021?
I know Gabbert was dinged up, but I seem to recall subbing them out in the middle of drives.
Point still stands, Iām more just checking my memory.
I believe Mayer was just on designed qb runs
Gabbert was also injured to start that season. Recall we didnāt find out that Mayer was starting the opener vs UC until an hour before kickoff.
Once Brett was fully cleared in October, Mayer never saw the field again.
I noticed that as well.
Considering the height of that player I am assuming that is Scoop Smith.
It might be the case that Reynolds gave the number to Scoop since he had the ACL injury.
If that is the case it might also suggest that Keith is not planning to come back next year.
Wasnāt there talk after last year that he was going into the portal?
