Cradle of Coaches

I think the standard for getting a statue is to accomplish one of these criteria: National Coach of the year, win a National Championship, or win an NFL championship.

I’d be shocked if that’s a factor at all. Way beneath Miami.

as well as being a Miami graduate. That’s why Woody Hayes doesn’t have a statue.

Sid Gillman is already in both the College and NFL Halls of Fame.
( revolutionized the passing game).

And be an alum.

He went to Ohio State.

@1812grad I would’nt assume antisemitism is ā€œbeneathā€ Miami. For decades the university allowed fraternities with restrictive covenants to operate on campus.

Three of the alpha chapters.

I cannot address pre 1970.My reference is to the last 54 years
and I stand by my statement. I’m discussing Sid Gilman being or not being in the Cradle of coaches. The rule that you need to be an alum is the answer as was pointed out. End of discussion.

I enrolled in September, 1969. I went through rush in winter Q 1970. As a Jew, I was told that certain fraternities excluded Jews. While some have said at least 3 rejected Jews, the one I am certain was Sigma Chi. I knew there were were others. Was I surprised that antisemitism existed at Miami? Of course not. I learned at an early age that we were ā€œdifferentā€ and rejected by many Americans.
Sad but true.

Some asshat drew a swastika on the Pike house when I was a student 2012-16. There is a long shadow of antisemitism in American universities, historic and modern.

I got there in 1974 and as a lark I stopped by Sigma Chi. I have a very Jewish last name and he pointed me to go to the Sammy house. I explained I’m not from Ohio but was and am a New Yorker and explained to him to go back in his Jew-Hating house and back away if he ever saw me again. He stammered. I smirked.

Your information is incorrect and you should watch what you write.

2 Jewish friends of mine, to correct your misinformation, in my freshman class in fall 1969 rush, One pledged Beta one pledged Sigma Chi. Not the only ones but the ones I personally knew and still know.

We’re you in Sammy? My dad was in it in the late 70s at Miami, and a Jew from NY lol

ā€œMisinformationā€? Really? I guess you were privy to conversations I had with others who made it clear that SC was antisemitic. I don’t have any idea who your friends were and their experience. I just know that I was told several times that no Jews and parents had to have money.
My parents had money. And where Jews. So your accusing me of ā€œmisinformationā€ is an insult and is made by you out of ignorance (lack of knowledge or information–not ā€œstupidā€ in case you needed the dictionary definition).
You say ā€œI should watch what I write.ā€ Is that a threat? You, or your Jewish friends or SC, are going to sue me for defamation? Go ahead. I’ve tried defamation/libel/slander cases. In case you didn’t know, truth is an absolute defense to defamation.Be happy to represent myself in any litigation. And if I want, my best friend will gladly represent me.

I was on campus from’65-ā€˜69. When I participated in rush during January of 1966 it was common knowledge that there was no point in Jews visiting certain houses because they would never be pledged.

I would be interested in having members of those fraternities confirming or denying the existence of restrictive covenants.

All I will say, as a parent of a Miami University sophomore, (and whose parents are both 1987 Miami graduates) is there is a reason there is a Jewish Parents of Miami University Facebook page.

The base answer is people are tribal and are ultimately more comfortable among those like them.

Is that why you wouldn’t jump on the Bengals bandwagon when I invited you to join us during our Super Bowl run in what now feels like 20 years ago but was actually like 3…
