There he is
Oh, Greggie!
This one is hard. I had many dreams we were in the show. Sometimes, last 4 in and playing Morehead State. Other times, weād play Duke and win at the wire. Iād wake up and write down the details. Iām honestly stunned. I think I need a Quaalude. Love you all. See you next fall.
Donāt need this right now.
Like the swallows to San Juan Capistrano or, perhaps more appropriately, the buzzards to Hinckley.
Dayton canāt host NIT games with the First Four and the State Championship games at UD Arena. It could be UD at Miami with Dayton as the higher seed. But thereās rumors that UD wonāt take a post season bid.
Maybe Suter or Craft should have stood up in the huddle at the last time out and said
" Iāll make it ".
Even that Las Vegas 16 team tourney is designed for power conference teams. If we had won, Akron would have gotten an NIT berth. I put our chances at getting one at <20% given the invite structure in place. As stated above, probably need a few of the big boys with .500 type records to opt out.
I honestly care much more about ensuring we keep this roster intact than any random ass post season tourney (with apologies to molleaut)ā¦
Yea! You were right!
Should we fire Travis?? Honest question.
The Crown actually helps our NIT chances and they are still basically zero.
Exactly my thought at this time otherwise dominated by such a hollow feeling.
The hard part is knowing that all we had to do was hit just one of those missed 3 pointers down the stretch to win. Just brutal.
The only reason to pursue the RAT (random-ass tournament) is if we think some sort of post-season game would be helpful in convincing the core of this roster to stay. We have a couple of players who would be attractive portal candidates.
I hope the fact that no players are graduating except luers is attractive enough to keep them all here to get revenge
I got one thing right tonight
Not even that was necessary. The first 10 minutes of the second favored Akron but we still were making field goals with one or two threes to keep a healthy lead. But down the stretch they tightened up, refs swallowed a few whistles, and we just werenāt able to keep them at bay.
Akron was probably always going to make it a close game no matter what. To me some of those possessions where we lost Nate and the other shooter on the perimeter with about 5 minutes to go were the killers. We would close out short, or just lose a guy after an offensive rebound. The stretch that cut the lead from double digits to 5 or 6 lost us the game IMO.
Look, credit to Akron. They made the right adjustments in the 2nd half. Okonkwo didnāt play much in the 2nd half, but Lyles did and he had 14 rebounds. They took advantage of us switching 1-5 by keeping it in the ballhandlerās hands longer instead of reversing the ball. They put in a flare screen to free their shooters up. They were 7/16 from 3 in the 2nd half. And they only turned the ball over twice in the 2nd half. We had 9 fewer shot attempts in the 2nd half vs. the 1st half.
We played with great effort tonight. We almost made the big leap a year early in my opinion. Hopefully this group gets to play some more this year because they earned to keep playing. But this game should be used as motivation for the offseason. To take that next step and while weāre so close, there are areas that need to be improved upon. Not wholesale changes, but concerted efforts by some individuals and player groups that can make the difference. But kudos to this group for continually getting better. Just look at the 2 Akron games. Akron, with the right matchup, will beat someon in the NCAAs and they ran us out of their gym in January. The game was over after 10 minutes. They had to play a full 40 to beat us tonight.
Miami has history with being up 2 late in a Championship gameā¦.
OMG.( points and / or goalsā¦).
