We couldn’t deal with the press and we started trying to run clock too soon.
12-2 BG run. Pretty much a last five minute total collapse. Had this one pretty much under control. Damn!
That was painful to watch. Epic collapse by our boys.
Had to get Cooper a rest, but didn’t have another healthy PG to go to. Painful
Have to get Ipsaro and Dean healthy. At least we’re competitive within the MAC in year two. That’s what we were hoping for last year.
15-2 run to the end the game. Yes we had a few turnovers down the stretch but in my opinion the problem was they were 100% tougher than us. Yes we had some freshman out there but we also had seniors that played some terrible basketball down the stretch
We are about to hit the road for four of five and the home game is Akron. Yikes
Couldn’t make the game tonight, but watched the final 8 minutes or so. With about 25-30 seconds left, Miami is down 2 pts and gets the stop - the missed shot bounces out to about the 8 foot mark. In between the rim and the spot of the offensive rebound (that effectively ended our chances) stood Reece Potter - all 7’1” of him and his long arms and he merely watched the ball sail about 2-3 feet over his head - stayed flat footed. Watch that replay - there should have been desperation to get that ball, but all 3 white shirts in the lane watched it - nobody moved. I am speechless on how stupid those last 6 minutes were. Spastic reactions to the press - unforced errors. We finish the game on the bad side of a 15-2 run. Just an awful finish - no mental strength or ability to handle adversity at all. We were up 71-63 with 6:20 left - wow.
Tough loss. Looked good at times. Looked pretty bad at times. Not loving that we’ve blown two pretty big second half leads in MAC play. Just kind of an ugly game. As others have mentioned - we fumbled the ball around, and couldn’t get needed buckets/stops in the last 5 minutes.
As much as I think we could (maybe will?) be better - ‘good enough to beat the bad MAC teams and not good enough to beat the better MAC teams’ has been true thus far.
The toughest guy on the team is Ipsaro and we need him on the floor at the end. We are also missing our other point guard. Right now we are using 2 shooting guards as our point guards. They are doing OK but they are not really true point guards, for this group to reach its full potential we need our point guards back. Another tough loss to take, similar to what happened at Toledo.
Got my kids down and tuned in to the end. We were up 73-69 and didn’t score another point. Pretty pathetic.
I’m sorry that I missed most of the game, but did Ipsaro not play at all? He got meaningful minutes against EMU - I was hoping that he would be up to about 20+ min at least. Was Evan simply not available at the end?
Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in both games!
Isparo didnt play at all- was not dressed in uniform
Almost everyone involved in the last 6 minutes had something to do with losing this game. We did run 2 good sets offensively, getting Potter on the block, who made the right move but just missed the shot. Then the down screen for Mabrey, but the 3 went in and out. However, I didn’t understand subbing Mirambeaux for Potter on defense when Mirambeaux had 4 fouls and had been less effective defensively. Agee got in the post, took it right at him, Mirambeaux didn’t challenge him and gave him an easy 2. Bad sub. On the next defensive possession, we sub Potter back in (good) but we try to play zone (awful). We gave up an easy look but Potter challenged it, however, we didn’t get the rebound, and they didn’t miss the easy look the 2nd time. I want to pull my hair out when we try to play zone because it doesn’t look anything like a 2-3, 1-3-1, or matchup zone. It’s a mess, yet we tried it at the most crucial part of the game.
More minutes for Potter if possible. He was very good tonight. He was physically outmatched, getting pushed around under the basket, but he didn’t back down. I thought Morris bounced back and played better, he should’ve had more minutes. Less minutes for Mirambeaux. He was better in the 2nd half, but we got back in the game in the 1st half when he was on the bench and Potter was in.
As good as Bultman was the other night, he was a negative tonight. He didn’t make good decisions with the ball tonight and bobbling a pass late cost us a key layup.
I really don’t like Coach’s comments after the game. If you notice, they interrupted his opening comments with a highlight, which usually doesn’t happen. But the first question referred to something he said in his opening about the officials that wasn’t shown. Stop talking about the officials so much.
He’s doing it so much that our impressionable freshman big man started his comments with the same thing. We didn’t get a bad whistle tonight. And you say we have to play with more poise, which is true. But it’s hard for a team to play with poise when they see their coach getting on the officials or talking to or about them constantly.
We played very well in the middle 20 minutes of the game or so, hanging in there, letting BG cool down from their ridiculous shooting start. But we’ve got to be better at the end of games, playing and coaching.
Free throws
BG 19-31
Miami 10-15
If you get to the line, make ‘em
Our best post player is Potter on both ends of the court and it isn’t even close. Given how physical BG was I thought a few minutes for Kotecki were in order. This was a team loss but Bultman was horrible and Cooper continues to dribble in to trouble. We need Ipsaro back.
I agree mz343. I didnt love the whistles down the stretch but the reason we lost is they were tougher and more physical nit because of the refs
All of our seniors had bad fouls down the stretch. Hunter gets a foul 40 feet from the basket in transition. Bultman is in perfect position to take a charge and hops out of the way. anderson gets a MAC charge. But he also had some horrible lazy fouls during the game including one 80 feet from the basket
One other thing that is down the stretch in close game we miss Safford so much. I dont what happened but that really hurt this team.
I think it’s less Safford and more someone who can will themself to a shot. @Quinoaburger was right about slowing the offense down too soon, but it hurts Miami more because there’s not a go-to person at the end of the clock. Hunter had a poor possession where he picked up his dribble and passed it to Mabrey 30 ft from the basket with 5 seconds left. Hunter has to drive the offense at that point and didn’t.
It was a pretty good offensive game, but the worst offensive game since non-conference play IMO. Turnovers and slow reads showed up.
Watched the game. It’s a shame we let that one get away. BG has a really athletic team with Agee and the others. Got in foul trouble and that hurt too. I do like the fact that Potter and Mirambeaux can shoot from the outside.
Miami had three freshmen play 71 minutes. BG had one frosh play 4 minutes.
