Bergeron Canned

Plenty of successful Miami Hockey Alums endorsed Bergeron and many “ up at his “ Official Introduction meet and greet “also!

We should hire from within the NCHC.
If it’s not possible then create a plan B.

I was talking with some 2023 grads about how the coaches they were here for are mostly gone besides Martin. And as freshman that class came in with a pretty new MBBall coach and brand new hockey and wbball coaches

He hired the swim coach. 4 MAC titles for the men.
He also hired the field hockey coach. Epic hire.

He hired two women’s tennis coaches who did awesome
New volleyball coach is going to be a home run.

I see some dubious results across men’s and women’s basketball but the two current head coaches are doing great.

Defensible in terms of the process, not the outcome. Slam dunk hire, but sometimes slam dunk hires don’t work out.

Can Bonk or one of the other hockey cognoscenti tell me the answer. Given our facilities, history, location and resources what is a reasonable expectation for a new staff?

Interesting. I had heard that there was a formula where the statistical mean of the team’s entering freshman couldn’t be more than one deviation from the statistical mean for the overall class. Therefore, if a coach could get some kids better than the average freshman admit, they could dig a little deeper academically for a top recruit so long as the overall mean wasn’t more than one deviation (have no idea how that would be calculated) away from that of the overall freshman class.

I think Jack Owens was very defensible as a hire. Resume looked good on paper, coming from a great program at Purdue.

On average, Miami should be better than BGSU. No reason you can’t be around the middle of the pack (WMU/UNO). Increased investment is probably needed though. How much does the team bus when other NCHC teams would fly?

Lurker’s MINIMUM benchmark for this program is what Western Michigan has become. Every year competing for 3-4-5 in the league standings - so if we finish last, we’re only 3-6 points out of 5th, not 30. Home ice in the playoffs 1 out of 3 years. Have a crappy season only 1 out of 5 years and never 2 in a row. Maybe even win the league once in a while. Be in the conversation for an NCAA at-large every 4-5 years. Again, this is the MINIMUM and I think with the right coach these expectations are not unrealistic.

The expectation should not be to surpass North Dakota and Denver as that is unrealistic. Expecting to compete for a league title every year is unrealistic as is expecting to be in the NCAAs every year. The benchmark is to compete consistently with North Dakota and Denver which is what I laid out. Folks may disagree with certain aspects of this but I’m trying to quantify “compete” which can be challenging. Hopefully y’all get the point.

That was more directed at the people who don’t follow the program and claim to be experts or make every other post about changing leagues. All good.

You are obviously tuned in. What’s the word on new Synchro skating coaches,(2)? Back to Back National titles! Big skates to fill there.

Whew, I was concerned we wouldn’t have an opportunity to hear the opinions of the Greenhawks fanbase. Now I don’t have to run over to SusieSports to get my fill of Greenhawks crapping all over my program. We should set the bar above BUGS. Great, thanks for those keen insights.

Not to argue, but George Gwozdecky went from Miami to Denver and won a ton of games from mid 1990’s to 2013.

I’m going by how they were recruiting when my kid came out of prep in 2012. There might have been some changes since then. I don’t know. The NESCAC has something similar in effect where a coach can walk a couple of definite non-admits/but probable success kids through admissions to try to get one or two approved in every class.

Oh dont be so sensitive! We both gave essentially the same exact assessment.

I wish it counted for more!

Lol. Anyone defending DSs coaching hires with minor sports =

And anyone knows Steele wasn’t his Choice. Owens had another year.

Buhbye.

I’ve seen the shots you’ve taken at us on that love fest you set up for yourself over on CSN. So now you come here and try to make nice? Spare me.

And that North Dakota arrogance in your post shows through in flying colors. “Gee, you’re worse than BUGS. Gee, you’re poor and can’t afford to fly like the great Sue spirit in the sky.” Again, spare me.

Double grrrrrr. Back to lurking.
