Baseball 2023 Thread Updated

RedHawks, now 7-22, dropped two of three at home this weekend to 7-18 WMU. Won the second game of the DH Sunday. Joe Nuxhall Classic up next midweek. Dismal baseball season for the MAC!

Is that where we lose to a bunch of talented 15-year-olds from Hamilton High?

Nope. Just a Tuesday game with 16-14 Xavier, on a five game win streak that includes a sweep of NIU and wins over Ohio State and West Virginia. At least it’s in Oxford.

But I don’t see us giving up double digit runs.

Nope. But I don’t know if is because our pitching staff is improving or because the MAC is so terrible. Maybe a little of both…

Maybe we can land Googins after this season if he’s let go in Clifton? Seems like he has peaked at UC and they might want new blood heading into Big XII…just a thought

Lost to X in Oxford yesterday 16-2. It’s the 12th time we’ve given up double digit runs. We’re currently 7-23 playing .233 baseball. That puts us on track to challenge Miami’s all time worst record (1996) when we went 12-40 and a .231 win percentage. More dismal news in Miami athletics…

Baseball is a fascinating brand (to me). Unlike softball where you have to go to Yeager to watch (which is a pity as the ladies are actually good), the baseball facility is in the heart of campus. I used to love catching a few innings on a nice day. Up to me, you could sell cheap beer and grill up dogs and get a good DJ and create a fun place for people to socialize. That won’t fix a poorly built roster or bad coaching but still. We’re not historically great in baseball, but we have had some nice seasons. Guess not this year.

I don’t want to pretend I know much about the other baseball facilities in the MAC, but our baseball facility seems quite nice to me, and is uniquely situated in a central location on campus.

Much of the talk around basketball seems to be, “Millett stinks - that’s why we’ve been so bad at hoops.” (Which I’m not sure I totally agree with.) Am I crazy - our baseball facility is nice, right? Facilities has nothing to do w our baseball issues, right?

Agree. For a mid-major, McKie is quite nice - with a dedicated baseball ops facility adjacent to it. Marshall won’t even have a suitable yard in Huntington for Sun Belt play until 2024. McKie is a nicer facility than UNCW’s Brooks Field - one I’m familiar with.

Shh. McKie is great, but too many props will cause Sayler to charge attendance.

Right, but if you had cheap beer and dogs and a dj maybe you could. That’s the thing about creating atmosphere. It attracts people.

A win yesterday to open the three game series at Eastern Michigan. Softball also opened the home series vs Buffalo with a two run win.

That’s the way to start the weekend!

Took 2 of 3 in Ypsilanti this weekend.

Great to take the Meatloaf portion on the road!

Moving ever so slowly up from the dreaded Mendoza line!

On ESPN+ right now. Miami scores three in top of the 9th to tie UC. Two outs with runners at second and third.

Two out opposite field HR by McDonald in top of 10. Miami leads 5-4 going to the bottom of 10. First lead of the day.

Screw UC. Walk off, one-out, three run bomb. Bearcats win 7-5 in 10 and get the tie on the season series.
