ACC Possibly Not an Option

We just threw 200 mil at an arena

It worked for SMU.

Borrowed money

Yes, but that doesn’t tell me where or how Miami got $30-40 million to throw at the AAC.

Sayler and Kyle Decker have OnlyFans channels!

Perhaps this was leaked to encourage JMU and UCONN to pony up more money like Miami is reportedly doing.

I’m not going to ask how you know that. No sir.

with some of this money we should hire someone who speaks for Sayler publicly…we should be so much better at this than what has been displayed the last 2 years

How about this guy?

Wish I had saved the version of this guy with a Marshall logo on the beret.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Sayler was able to get a group of big donors together to say “it’s now or never, we need $X from you to get out of the MAC or else we’ll be left behind forever.” You get some finance/old money types and it becomes achievable.

If we’re talking about a 30-40 large donation to make a generational change like switching conferences, there’s no way this would (or should) be on Sayler’s plate. This would be a Presidential issue and one that most likely would include prominent trustees and outside stakeholders.

Who’s to say we can’t finance it and pay it back with the increased media payouts (assuming we don’t have to forfeit media money to join)

Anything is possible today - An insurance company bet on LSU to win big. Is it tied to Lane Kiffin’s bonus? - The Athletic

Help me understand that deal structure. If it involves securitizing the media rights, what’s the coupon on that and who is the likely investor? Then roll the tape forward and consider that you now need to handle the “opex” of competing in a more expensive conference while someone else is collecting the media rights income stream plus a structured rate of return. Then, add on top of that an NIL budget that likely would need to grow by another several million per year to be competitive. I’m not saying no; I’m just saying that I’d need a more robust model here.

Won’t these increased media payments need to go towards being at least somewhat competitive in the AAC. Strip the AD of that and then what. Operate on a MAC budget? I’m sure the AAC wants none of that. Massively raise already large subsidies from the students? At what point do those become a real issue in student recruitment and possibly attract the attention of a state legislature that isn’t fond of higher ed to begin with.

The UConn AD’s reaction seems to back this up…

Given news broke on 3 schools (and its seems the real news was Miami’s 30-40m offer and UConn and JMU were just thrown in), it almost certain the leak came from an AAC source. Especially since the story broke at 8:30am and the AAC had a statement at 9am.

The motive seems fairly obvious: the AAC wants the word out they are looking for 40-50m a school when they inevitably lose a couple schools to the Big XII/ACC and look to back fill. This wasn’t so much reporting on 3 candidates as getting a price out there to start getting the market churning.
