Forget the ACC, and oppose the PCSA.
I think this is the exact scenario that makes the ACC an option. When they lose their best teams and have nowhere else to go- they will look to G6 level for replacements
CM could not compete in the ACC
Not in the current ACC.
Let’s not forget that the original co-sponsor of the PCSA was Miami alum and U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell.
I have never seen anything that suggests that Cantwell has any close ties to Miami.
Despite being a current U.S. Senator the university rarely makes mention of her as an alum.
Note the famous alums mentioned in football game notes.
However, it is an avenue that the university could and might be pursuing to insure that Miami’s interests in all of this is considered.
Miami, even with a rebuilding ACC, brings nothing of value to that table.
this whole thing has been a punchline at a cocktail party (started by Brad Bates) to hopefully drive interest and donations to the coffers.
A candidate to backfill a team that does get selected by the ACC, absolutely.
Miami’s value to any potential conference will likely be as a backfill for the AAC/Sun Belt to stabilize membership, not to actively grow revenue. From that perspective they could do worse than Miami, there are only so many schools that aren’t already in a better conference and aren’t facing major issues from the expense boom/enrollment cliff.
The ACC is a pipe dream but I don’t blame Sayler for using that as a target. It’s easier to galvanize an athletic department and fan base with a conference people know instead of the likes of Louisiana-Monroe.
Maria is a big Miami fan. Doesn’t have time to attend games but follows us closely. Was a regular at the Seattle Alumni Chapter events. She and I sat together at the luncheon when we hosted Randy Walker. She came to our watch party for the 2003 GMAC Bowl. Maria’s a big Mariners fan, too.
They don’t list Mike DeWine either.
Could be that they avoid listing current political officeholders for some reason?
Does not make sense to me.
That must be it because Dewine comes down a lot and doesnt he have a retirement job
Regardless of political affiliation I think we should be proud of senators and governors
where is Dr Harper? BS list!
No Ben?
In 23-24, Charlotte was admitted to the AAC with zero entry fee. They had to pay $3m to leave CUSA. Army also paid nothing to join in 2024.
Interesting that just a few years later they feel they are in the position to deny $30-40m from Miami. Also raises questions on why we weren’t more aggressive a few years ago to try and get that spot. Have to think $10-20m would have gone a long way then.
Every time this thread moves, I re-read the title and think to myself that “ACC Possibly Not an Option” is true more or less in the same way as “Christina Hendricks Possibly Not an Option.”
I just don’t see the need to move from the MAC to a like conference with no rivalries or interesting teams…
They do have a significantly bigger media deal, like 10x as much.
Its not a like conference. Media deal is literally ten times bigger. They don’t have to play all their conference games midweek. They have actual national brands like Army, Navy, Memphis, Tulsa, Tulane.
I think sometimes since we are so ingrained in the MAC we forget how the country looks at the directional Michigan schools, Ball State, Bowling Green, etc. Even schools like Akron and Kent State despite some basketball runs. And I don’t exclude us from that either. If you look at the comments on the news on this, no one is asking about taking UConn or JMU, but several saying things like why would the AAC want a school like Miami.
The MAC is the joke of FBS and there is no future staying there if we want to stay in FBS. There’s a real chance the MAC won’t even exist as an FBS football conference in 10 years.
