This is the move Miami should attempt. The AAC. Makes more sense than a pipe dream of ACC. For those that think “AAC is no different than the MAC”, I suggest you research the media deals alone. AAC media deal is significantly better than the MAC.

The American said not interested in expanding, but Miami should try to keep the conversation open in case other conference moves change that opportunity. Very curious what the MAC office thinks of this news.
The MAC office is very aware that Miami, Ohio, WMU, and Toledo would all jump immediately to anywhere that would have them.
If you remember, despite attempts to tamp down the rumors/news, Ohio very low key poked around about getting into the Sun Belt just last year.
The real risk of staying in the MAC for Miami is losing 2 or all 3 of those schools and being left in a truly miserable spot.

Miami wouldn’t be offering 30-40 million to make the move if Miami didn’t realize that AAC>MAC. That alone, assuming the information is correct, speaks volumes. This is the current membership of the AAC.
The American has 12 full members – Charlotte, East Carolina, FAU, Memphis, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB and UTSA. Army and Navy are football-only members. Wichita State is a full member in every sport but football.

at least two reckonings are coming - the looting of the ACC and NIL reform. We need to keep pushing and making noise about moving on from the MAC. I think the American will regret not taking this $$ today, the offer isn’t going to get bigger for them, especially when USF, Tulane, Tulsa, and Memphis move on.

I disagree. This assumes CM keeps a MAC roster? By default, joining the ACC would bring bigger/better recruits to Oxford because of the P4 label alone. JMO

The MAC is garbage. Quite literally half the conference doesn’t try at any sport and the conference is treated as a joke among college fans. It’s all fun until you actually want to compete at a high level. Get me out

I’m excited that it seems Miami is a lot more ambitious than teams like WMU, Ohio, and Toledo is. From what it seems is that this is not a new development but it getting leaked today hopefully means someone it trying to get things moving.

I agree. Being proactive like this beats the hell out of waiting until the next round of realignment happens, or the MAC collapses.

Does this make UConn a conference game this weekend?
If the college sports system were frozen in 2010s amber then I’d say a move probably isn’t worth it, but with where we’re at we need to be proactive and find a way out of the MAC.
Btw the fact we can seriously offer $30M or more adds credence to the fact Chuck probably has more pressure on him than ever. We’re not paying that kind of money for 7 wins in the MAC (probably translating to 5 or 6 in the AAC).

Why not try to start a new conference- UConn ( except B ball ) U Mass, Army , Navy, Temple, Marshall ( I know the HURD sucks ), O U , Toledo , WMU and Miami _ maybe James Madision and Liberty and Buffalo
I like this idea, but approach it from an aspect of recreating the Big East WITH Miami as a member
The point is to get attached to an existing lucrative TV deal. Starting something new is not an option and a waste of time and resources.
