25/26 Other NCAA Basketball

Hilarious that a road game at Penn State (who Iowa lost to today) and home versus Akron both count as Q2 games all the same. Auburn finished 1-6 in February (4 losses to unranked teams) but is still in the field for many “experts.” Give me a break.

Yeah. SOS is important, but at some point, you need to win some of those games. Simply playing a tough schedule shouldn’t get you on the bubble, or else most of Coles’ teams would have been.

This is fun. Miami makes lots of appearances.

Saw this article. 26 year old player bails on team abruptly, 5th team in as many years, 2nd leading scorer. Im a former D1 athlete and tend to side with the player in most of these situations, but if this isn’t a sign of the times I don’t know what is. I would love to see what his academic transcript looks like.

Rob Summers leads Cleveland St to a win in the first conference tournament game of the season in the Horizon play in game. I also just discovered that IU Indy hired Ben Howlett this past offseason from West Liberty, a D2 power with a unique play style.

Updating the list of MAC games with 5k+ attendance this year. Miami now has the top 5 at home, involved in all of the the top 6, and part of 9 of 15 (60%). Have to think the game in Athens will make the list too.

10,640 NIU @ Miami
10,640 OU @ Miami
10,640 Toledo @ Miami
10,127 BG @ Miami
9,223 UMass @ Miami
7,524 Miami @ UMass
6,850 Toledo @ BG
6,404 Toledo @ Ohio
6,327 Miami @ Kent St
6,327 Akron @ Kent St
5,429 EMU @ Toledo
5,352 BG @ CMU
5,143 Miami @ Toledo
5,096 Buffalo @ UMass
5,088 UB @ Miami

#9 Nebraska lost by 20 @ UCLA

#10 Texas Tech lost at home to TCU

#14 Kansas lost @ ASU

#16 Alabama lost at UGA

In just the home games listed here we almost hit 60k attendance.

Last night 10,640 fans were at Millett.

The other 5 MAC games last night totaled 7,648.

Obviously the undefeated streak and national ranking has had a HUGE effect on interest, but this type of support could literally flip the MAC on its head.

HooiserHawk:‘do you know what our final average per game home attendance ended up at? I am guessing it could come in second all time to our Wally World average of 6401 in 98-99.

If I did the math right, I show 4,685 average attendance. Bandwagon was a bit too empty early + J-term.

I think you’re 100 % right about that.

SVP read our box score vs ODU attendance of barely over 2,000 for game 1. I remember thinking that it wasnt a bad crowd for ODU

I also remember watching the first half of the ODU game, when we were down 37-23, and thinking we weren’t going to be very good this year. :joy:

Its crazy to look back and see how close this historic season was from never even getting off the ground.

Down 37-23 in Game 1 vs ODU

Air Force closed it to 53-49 in the second half in Game 3.

Mercyhurst took the lead 71-70 with 1:30 left in the game in Game 4.

UNC-G up 11 in the second half 51-40 in front of 46 (!) total attendance in a JUCO gym in Florida.

UNC-A taking the lead with 10 seconds left.

What a year its been

and that’s just the OOC games!! Buffalo, Kent back to back OT games both while trailing in last minute of regulation, UMass games, WMU buzzer beater….I mean what in the crazy world is going on!!?? Pure cinema.

And yet there have been many many games where we have led either the entire 40 minutes (even if it got close) or for more than 35 minutes…truly remarkable.

MVC regular season champ Belmont got absolutely smoked by 9 seed Drake in the Arch Madness QFs.

This is why we must win tonight. I do not want to be sweating out selection sunday. Anything can happen in a conference tournament.
