I was wholly unimpressed with Illinois State. If they don’t show significant improvement, then one would have to say preseason prognosticators were very wrong.

I would also say OU has some nice pieces in Paveltzke, Simmons, Hadaway and transfer portal addition 6’8” Breath. They aren’t much of a three point shooting team though. And Jeff Boals continues to have an unnaturally long neck!

Mercyhurst, who Miami plays in their nonconference schedule, beat Loyola Chicago as 22.5 point underdogs

Whoa. Bernie Blunt III is an all time name and is a very good player.

Wright State lost their top 4 scorers to the transfer portal, but managed to keep it reasonably close at Cal last night (lost by 10).

and Loyola Chi needed a buzzer beater to beat Cleveland St who should have lost to D3 Capital (picked for 6th in the OAC) but won 71-70. I think all of those teams are likely not good.

Loyola graduated a lot of seniors after last season from their NIT final four team and they’ve been inconsistent under Valentine. They were due for a correction but losing to Mercyhurst at home is woof.

Safford lighting it up for Kent (21 and 34 points), 14-25 on 3s.

Craft averaging 8 ppg for Ga Tech (4-12 on 3s). In 57 minutes he has 1 rebound.

Potter will redshirt at UK. Probably the best thing for him.

I’m currently watching WMU/Campbell. An intervention may be needed.

Campbell has a giant inflatable camel in of the corners.

Toledo thumped at Savage Arena by Marshall 85-73. That’s two straight losses at home against the Sun Belt’s upper tier for the Rockettes.

They had a 14 point lead in the first half

Has anyone active had more seasons as a D1 Head Coach without ever going to the NCAA tournament? I believe this is Kowalczyk’s 24th year as a D1 coach. Kind of amazing to be a head coach that long without a trip to the dance.

Did a quick CBB reference deep dive to answer my own question. Unless I missed someone, the only actives even in the same neighborhood are:

Joe Jones: 7 years at Columbia and 15 years at Boston U for 22

Jason Hooten: 13 years at Sam Houston and 3 at New Mexico State for 16

In a cruel twist of fate for Jones, Boston won their conference tournament in 2020 when the tourney was cancelled.

EDIT: Found 1 more at least in the neighborhood, Tom Pecora 9 at Hofstra, 5 at Fordham, 3 at Quinnipiac for 17.

“Typically, when a high-major program hosts low-major schools, they have to “buy” the game — literally paying out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to make the likely road loss worthwhile for the smaller school. But in this case, Crosby and Kraft worked out a deal: Penn State would come to New Haven in the first of a four-year agreement, but for the gesture, New Haven’s road trips to Penn State in 2026, 2027 and 2028 would be free of charge. “

That may be the worst agreement ever. New D1 program gets absolutely no money but gets the honor of being whipped by 44 points (while only scoring 43)? I hope the pregame excitement of hosting PSU’s perennially underwhelming team was worth it… because that is literally all New Haven is getting out it.

That AD should be fired immediately.

Brad Bates would be proud. Nm on Klacic.
