Miami has offered Rutgers Tranfer CJ Onyechi. 6’1 250 lb DE. Started 8 games for the knights last season. I believe we’re his first offer thus far.

We lost Pace and Phelps to transfer, Kimpler and Dom Rob to graduation. We need to shore up the DL depth quickly. I like how are coaches seem to be aggressively doing this as well as going after guys that academically fit well at Miami-Rutgers, Dartmouth, Stanford. So we can sell them on the football and the academics.

So maybe we did have some recruits at our bowl game. Tulsa had a few at the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Recruiting, commitment, de-commitment and brand loyalty have less geographical boundaries than ever before in CFB. It has become a highly transactional and transitory sport.
Miami adds 6’1 210 LB/RB Nico Pate out of Pennsylvania. He reported a Miami offer back in December of 2020, but it’s possible that this might end up being a PWO. Also reportedly held an offer from Penn.

In terms of help from the transfer portal, I would rank our needs as below:
-
DB - A lot of questions heading into next year. Wish we could find a Rugumba type to just plug and play. I think Saunders is going to be a stud though.

DL - emphasis on DE. Need another guy that can get after the QB. If we can get an interior player for depth, that’s great too.

WR? - assuming walker comes back, he and Mac are a solid tandem. Not sure about anyone behind them though. Would have loved the Tracy brother, but hopefully there are other options out there.
LB would have been #2, but I think we’ve addressed that with Wise.

I think Tracy will continue to develop into that type of back. Afari could too if he sees the field. Guys like Bowser and Nichols aren’t exactly in abundance. They usually get scooped up by bigger programs, as UCF did with Bowser. My guess is Nichols won’t finish his career at CMU either. In general, I think RB is pretty low priority right now.

My hope on RB is that with Shelton coming back we should be fine- but if you could add a future pro like Nichols then yes please do

I admit I am far from being an expert, but I was very impressed with the play of Saunders and Warren at CB. Both played much better than true freshman. Very good corner players. Add Mundy, Singleton, Caldwell, Kimpson, Rucker-Furlow, and Tubbs, provides depth and talent to the position. Most are freshman,and played a little, so should develop.
And I, too, hope Shelton returns. Not great size but a real hitter.

Warren is not a corner- but Saunders was impressive
