Yes I got many comments on looking very nervous
Iâll pay for him to keep up his daily predictions if the opposite keeps happening George Costanza-style.
We need to defend for 40 minutes tomorrow like we did tonight, and also rebound for 40 minutes tomorrow like we did for about 29 minutes tonightâŚ
I am now picturing a stylish dog wearing a top hat and a vest.
Ooooh, can I come? (giggity giggity)
First, what a great game. Iâm biased because basketballâs my favorite, but nothing beats tournament basketball. Stanley Cup playoff games are probably my 2nd, but the momentum changes that occur with every possession are the best. This game had that. And oh does it feel good to be on the winning side! Beating Kent in Cleveland for the 3rd time this year is incredible. Everyone in the program should feel great. Tonight was a really big step.
If you count overtime, we outscored them 24-13 in the last 7:30 in Oxford. Tonight, we outscored them 14-4 in the last 5 minutes. Iâm a believer that good offense beats good defense because you can have someone like Kraft who is just a shot maker. If you think about the last 4 shots he got, all makes, they were the same shot: hard off his right side and fading away. But hitting that first one probably gave him the feel of how the others should feel and he nailed them. Bad shots for anyone else, but for someone like him, once you get the feel, you can lock in on how to shoot the ball. BTW, I hope he continually stretches out his hips, planting hard and jumping off the right leg requires a lot from the right hip.
But as impressive as that was, our defense was really good, especially in the last 5 minutes. They only made 1 FG. It was good the whole 2nd half. Sullinger was only 4/12 and 1 of those was that lucky shot he got fouled on. If you think about it, they got 7 points off really lucky plays: that Sullinger shot, the 3 he hit after the ball bounced around and we shouldâve had a steal, and the âpassâ he threw in the 1st half that somehow landed in their bigâs hands for a layup. We were great on Davis all night. We did a great job recovering back to the bigs on their screens. They got us on the boards, they turned it up a notch, but again, we hung in there.
Craftâs late shooting will get most of the attention but other guys deserve to get praised for their play. Suderâs decision-making was really good, not getting caught too deep with the ball and attacking. Byers didnât score much, but his defense in the lane was really good, heâs very good at using his length to deter shots. The same for Woolfolk, he really battled hard tonight. Ditto for Elmer, adding his rebounding and sticking with it offensively. Potterâs 2 free throws in the last minute. And the defense of Cooper, Skaljac, and Ipsaro, not just on Sullinger, but on Medley, keeping him out of the lane. Kent only had 4 assists for the whole game, 0 in the 2nd half. Medley made 1 shot, the halftime throw up 3.
This team should feel good about how itâs playing. And all they should think about is doing whatever it takes to win tomorrow. Donât make it any more than that. Itâs just another game. Prepare like itâs a big game, but play it like itâs just another game.
I really didnt want EMu and Kent and yet we pulled both games out in the last 6 minutes
I wouldnt say we had a great crowd tonight but I would say it was equal of Kent (1 hour drive) and more than Toledo (2 hour drive)
25 is a lot of wins - especially for a team with a net around 150- what a fun season it has been
We have had two straight games were the opponent shot great early and died late and we were slow early and got to about average
Akron made everything today (Toledo doesnt guard) so we need them off and us on and lets go. Stranger things have happened
Hereâs hoping The Manâs next post is, âTheyâll get blown out in the 1st round of the NCAA tourney.â
Maybe now we will finally be ranked above Kent?
Maybe?
Ps, the Troy win as well?
Unlikely unless we beat akron, and even then I think itâs still unlikely
They look like The Cobra Kai in that photo. Time to make them pay and win the All Valley Chsmpiondhips
I was very happy with the Miami crowd showing tonight!
It was good size, but it felt like the T and the refs took the starch out of the crowd. It came alive finally when what else could you do. Craft shots have raised the roof both nights.
Holy crap! Just watched this as we had to go out tonight. Mulitple mini-coronaries; I ran out of digitalis but kept watching. another great winâour guys kept their cool. If there are still any Craft doubters, better wake up. As mz343 so ably explained, we are much better in many non-obvious ways than even a couple months ago. I think we are going to surprise people tomorrow!
Suder with a great game points/rebounds but I thought just as impressive was his defense on Sullinger. Really seemed to take him out of his game.
Craft fading corner out of bounds three pointers reminded me of (old timers might remember) Rick Mount of Purdue fame who made that routinely.
I donât know if it came through on the broadcast, but Craftâs second corner 3 near the end was from way behind the backboard. No idea how he worked the angle to get it to go in.
Sullinger torched us
Not at the end of the game. He had a difficult time getting a good look.
