Sullinger was 1-6 for 3 points in the last 13 minutes. I think that’s when Suder was locking him down.
ESPN gives us a 39% chance against Akron
Our switches and recoveries were very good after the first 5 minutes when we lost Sullinger a few times.
It’s pre 6 am, I have a marathon of kids activities today, and I’m fucking pumped for 7:30.
There’s a long string of family photos in which Squirrel Doggy or his late, lamented kennel mate Chipmunk Pup are wearing some sort of clothing or hat. And in absolutely all of them Squirrel Doggy looks unamused. He does, however, look quite dapper in his glen plaid Foggy Mountain dog coat. (Great product, and I plug it for free.)
It’s oh-dark-thirty here in [REDACTED] and two of my three alma maters are playing for championships tonight. This is going to be a great day – once I get back from the next dog walk.
While Dodo’s long-time assertion that most Akron residents are members of the federal witness protection program may not be completely accurate, my feelings about the place are probably still best summed up by the great American sociologist (and fellow Ohio expat) Chrissie Hynde.
Great recap of the end-of-game.
I was there, and I couldn’t have said it any better!
Miami is a 5 1/2 to 6 point dog against Akron…time to start barking tonight and show the world that Miami is the real deal…
Great game last night…really showed some serious guts in the last 4-5 minutes.
Potter has been playing the best ball of his career the last few games.
All night long, have the rules changed?
Captain Obvious here (again), but how about our free throw shooting down the stretch? Almost every shot a clean swish.
I had a little body English going on each free throw down the stretch.
An insane angle, especially for a right handed shooter.
I did see in person at Kettering Archbishop Alter’s basketball camp, longtime NBA player Jim Paxson drain 19 straight from that spot. No margin for error.
Yeah, I’m ready too. I slept a good amount, but it was uneven, and I’m not involved in the game.
So what should be the game plan for tonight? I think we need to slow the game down, not to a crawl, but somewhere in the 65-75 point range. They want to go up and down. I think they like it when they’re challenged in a shootout. We need to disrupt the flow of the game. Push when it’s there, but if they score, walk the ball up, reset, then run the offense with great energy and ball reversal. I’d think about only sending 2 guys at most to the offensive boards in order to protect against their transition offense. And we need to utilize our size. I’d love to see Woolfolk and Potter challenge their bigs inside, at both ends. Make them play defense for a long time. Kenpom has their average defensive possession at 17 seconds, that’s pretty short. Reverse the ball and make them stay in a stance for longer. Let’s see if they want to play defense for that long.
That would be my lead-in defensively too. Make them beat us with 2s. We can’t switch 1-5 on their guards. 1-4, maybe, depending on who’s out there. I’d hedge hard on the ballhandler, doubling even, letting the screener go down the lane and see if they can make that pass over our size. We’re not as quick, but we have the size, so let’s use it and make life difficult for the ballhandler. If we have to leave shooters open, Nate Johnson is 30% from 3 and Lyles is 31% from 3. Take the midrange away from Nate and the lane from Lyles. Make Okwonko finish 1-on-1, especially with how well we’ve walled up defensively in the lane.
Most importantly, they’ll hit us with a run, maybe early in the game. Let’s keep our poise and come back at them. Better yet, get off to a solid start and make it more of a grind-it-out type of game. They are really good, but if we play smart and hard with great poise and under control (no fly by close outs on 3 point shot fakes), we’ll be right there.
Is there a pregame gathering spot before the game?
Any idea what time the stadium opens?
Been harry buffalos right next to the Q.
Whoever loses tonight in my opinion more than deserves a NIT bid. Both teams are playing high level right now.
This is the most excited I’ve been for a Miami basketball game in over a decade. My last in-person Miami game was MU @ DePaul in 2018, and haven’t really been following Miami’s MBB due to its lack of success. Between this and the Snoop Dogg Bowl game, MU is definitely on the upswing for generating interest in RedHawks sports!
