What about a MAC sponsored hockey conference? With UMass there’s now 4 MAC teams in d1 hockey
UMass doesn’t want to play in a Midwest hockey conference, and BGSU is another blocker.
Joining up with the Summit League only ever made sense to me for the purposes of saving money by consolidating league operations, not actually adopting the brand and just becoming a sport sponsored by the Summit League. Still will be three Summit teams with UST joining the NCHC next year.
I agree UMass doesn’t want to leave HE, but what is it that BUGS is blocking?

Afaik, the other NCHC teams weren’t interested in BGSU, and splitting WMU and Miami off of the NCHC to join BGSU in a MAC league doesn’t make a ton of sense if it needs to be backfilled with CCHA teams.
We weren’t interested in BUGS at the beginning but from what I’ve read over the years is the NCHC asked BUGS to join and they turned us down. The timeframe on this was pre-pandemic.
I completely agree with you that backfilling a MAC hockey conference with CCHA or AHA teams makes zero sense for us but if MAC hockey ever came about a) there was some cataclysmic event that happened making MAC hockey imperative for us, b) it shouldn’t surprise anyone that eastern teams were included in the mix rather than CCHA/AHA teams given UMass’ location, and c) BUGS wouldn’t have anything to do with it other than being along for the ride like the rest of us.

‘09. Yikes. We’re getting commits who likely weren’t born when the program made its Frozen Four debut.
I mean we have a current player born in the latter half of 2008
Sure, but at least he was alive for that Frozen Four run. ![]()
I don’t give a shit when he was born, is he any good?
Northern Michigan is mightily struggling to start their season- they lost again last night to make their record 0-11. Poor Zane Demsey probably has the longest winless streak in the country I think it’s at 31 games
I was texting with his dad this week. Despite the slow start, he thinks they’re going to be a lot better by the end of the season.
They gave up 35 SOG in the first period of the season and 72 overall in their opener. ![]()
Yeah both of their goalies have already broken records
RPI and Ferris won today! ASU currently down 2-1 in the 3rd. Next weeks opponent WMU is about to be swept at home by Denver
Next week will be the battle between the bottom teams
I mean…we still have the least amount of losses!
In fairness we have more points per game than half the conference
Yeah the conference should take a cue from the NHL and include metrics like Games Played, Points Percentage, etc. on the standings page.
