2025-26 Miami hockey thread

Miami dropped slightly in the USCHO poll, receiving 78 votes 2 spots away from being ranked

Fell in USA hockey rankings too😐 52 votes, first one out

BOTH STUPID to lose ANY votes

Why is it stupid? We didn’t play. Perhaps others who were ranked near us and did play were particularly impressive.

I’m just sad we don’t get to see the little 20 next to our name on the score bug

To mix metaphors, we’re swimming uphill against a decade of suck. It’s unreasonable to expect poll voters to suddenly stop considering that. They want to see a track record.

Have I mentioned I don’t look at any polls or rankings until after the holidays unless someone posts something here? Trust me…it’ll go a long way towards preserving your sanity.

Back to lurking.

Just prove it this weekend against WMU. Also these polls don’t actually mean anything, what matters is the NPI which we are currently 12th

Its going to take a while and some more wins to get respect from poll voters after a decade of being the bottom feeder of the NCHC. Right now I’m not worried about the polls, results at the end of the year are what I’m concerned about. I’d be thrilled if we ended up .500 for the year after the decade we have had. Of course I’m always hoping for a winning record but the NCHC is the meat grinder of hockey leagues where every series is a battle, there aren’t any gimme’s (unless you have played us the last few years). This year is going to mark the turn around and climb back to the top I hope. We aren’t going to win the league but I am almost certain we aren’t finishing last this year.

I agree and I think deep down we all realize that November polls conducted by voters that couldn’t find Oxford on an Ohio map are irrelevant, but a little eagerness for respect from a Miami hockey fanbase is to be expected.

And yes, 10 years of being the nation’s doormat definitely affects opinions of those who vote in said polls.

Also it always seems like the polls are biased towards the Big ten/against the NCHC. And then we all know what happens in the tournamet

Media being pro Hockey East? Get out.

At least the hockey east has some track record. The big ten has accomplished next to nothing since it was formed for hockey

Is the NCHC live broadcast any good? Was going to throw down for a month or for the season.

Anyone that uses that let me know.

I used to be someone who complained about the quality of the Miami broadcast but then I saw what RPI and Lindenwood put out.

IMO NCHCtv for the year is worth it for me, you get live games, split screen on desktop, and access to archived past games. Theres a TV app on Roku in addition to the phone/ipad app that makes it easy to pull the games up. (Sometimes when I’m at the games in person I pull up NCHCtv to see what they’re saying especially during extended reviews😂) If you’re interested in watching away games the other NCHC schools have great broadcast quality, it does kinda depend on the school how good it is though.

There are also options where you can just pay for access for one day, access only to your schools games, etc which are cheaper and sensible options, unlike on FloHockey where it’s $30 a month no matter what. There’s also not a geographical/numerical limit that I’ve found to how many people can be watching on one NCHCtv account unlike FloHockey which bars you from watching if someone else is (I hate FloHockey).

The actual interface of the app/website is a bit clunky and probably needs an update but overall I’ve had a subscription for 3 years and have enjoyed it. I also like watching old games with past teams and going back and finding moments in games that aren’t on the highlights so the archive feature is essential to me. If I were just interested in watching live though I might be inclined to use less legal ways to stream.

Really depends on the home team, Miami’s broadcast is ok, westerns is pretty bad, but the rest are pretty good

Yeah St. Cloud and Nodaks are excellent, UMD not as much (it’s definitely gotten better recently). I saw someone complaining on Twitter about how bad Omaha’s broadcast quality is and I can’t say I agree. Again, Lindenwood’s didn’t even have replays and you couldn’t even see the players numbers to tell who was who.

Sometimes there are random technical difficulties with sound or visual but I’ve never not seen one get fixed within a reasonable amount of time

I’d agree that our broadcast is middle of the road…not fantastic, but definitely not the worst. My biggest problem with nchc.tv is the picture quality when using the amazon firestick app. Who knows, maybe I’m just not tech savvy enough to figure it out, but when I’m using the app on my tv, the quality is terrible. If I use my laptop and connect it to the tv with an hdmi cable, the quality is perfect. I can’t find any settings in the app to select the streaming quality. It’s not the end of the world, just an annoying extra step (plus I can’t use my laptop while it’s plugged into the tv).

I can cast the broadcast from my IPhone to my Smart TV. The broadcast quality is solid.

App availability being limited to Roku is my main grip about the service. Can’t cast from the android phone app to a TV. Usually have to resort to casting my chrome browser from my laptop to the TV, picture quality is still good but it could be so much easier.
