Would it be more efficient at this point to just track who’s left on the two-deep?
Next year lets break this into two separate threads …..whose coming and whose going
Agree - hopefully upgrades esp on the O line and D line. The underlying problem with the program however runs deep. We play not to lose and hope for mistakes/ turnovers by the other team. Look at the TOP stats against good teams and in OCC games. Our D is on the field way too long - we play soft zone or soft man coverage especially on short out routes ( go back and look at the Rutgers game tape for example). Our offensive strategy is based on chunk plays often relying on low percentage deep pass routes with the hope for a PI call. Asking our our redshirt frosh QB to run that kind of offense with a weak O line against good teams is a terrible mistake - watch the game films of the WMU and Frenso State games. We do not develop second team QB’s - when they do play they do not run a true offense. As one of my coach friends said there is no continuity or flow rhythm to our offense - we give up on a ground game way too quickly. We do not effectively use our tight ends and do not throw quick slants, crossing , short out routes and other passing approaches consistent enough - if at all - to establish an offensive possession game. Our O game plans appear to be based on off the cuff and inpatient decision making. Go back and look at the play calling over the CM years- we wasted many third and short yardage situations ( and drives altogether )by throwing incomplete low percentage deep balls- in certain cases this poor decision making cost us the game. We have an O line coach that cannot seem to develop talent . We do not have and have not had a true OC. We had little quality depth as evidenced in the bowl game by our O line subs and replacement long snapper. If anyone wants to take the time go back and do a play-by-play analysis of the CM years. Further go check out our offensive NCAA stats especially this year and especially for the last two games re offensive production. The FB program can and should do better.
Looking at an ESPN article regarding transfer QBs, I’m surprised at the number of QBs with only 1 year remaining who’ve been picked up. If MIami is looking at QBs, hopefully we look at Ethan Grunkmeyer
He’s already going to Va Tech with Franklin
We were the first D1 team to offer Ethan.
However, based on his performance in the bowl game I would expect he has sights on a bigger program and more $.
Can we get the Montana St OC in the portal? Asking for friends
I’m confused. The rules now expressly allow teams to buy a roster. Texas Tech bought a roster and made the playoff. And this is somehow not a success in your book because…?
Because some people preferred the old way when teams got bought with 50 grand in a duffel bag, and new cars rolled Off the local dealerships lot like free candy, and the coach could kill a kids career because he didn’t like the way he looked at em
I believe you just described the 5 opening minutes of the film “Necessary Roughness”.
Pros and cons to both but,
Was that the same when it was a handful of schools and they would stay at the school versus every school in an open bidding war with few rules? The old ways of cash in a FedEx box were becoming exponentially more difficult to get away with.
Or the old way where most athletes were student athletes versus today where they are professional athletes with a much lower chance of ever obtaining a degree? Grading standards are lower at schools versus 20 years ago which is not helping make student athletes.
Love the Montana St OC QB and Taco Dowler. Let’s sign all 3
I liked it better when players picked colleges because of the college not because of dollars. That is why I liked college football. The players went to the same school I did.
I already have Browns season tickets - I dont need another pro team
#4 on Illinois St would certainly help the WR room
$50,000? You’d end the season with a 2-9 record in the old Southwest Conference if you only offered $50k to a player.
There’s a throwaway bit in the Pony Excess film that the writer/director says was his favorite line:
To those gloom and doomers, I share your sense of frustration. However, the portal just opened. Yes, Miami has some significant loses, and a couple surprises like Reynolds, but we appear to be active in the portal, and hopefully our staff is targeting the right players and positions (OL, interior DL, anywhere on WR corp, DB). If the Montana St. v. Illinois State championship last night showed, there is a lot of talent to mine at the FCS level, not just FBS level. Let’s give the staff a chance to fill holes, then we can comment with facts at hand.
