He can do both jobs poorly.
Matt Rhule signed a 2 year extension, staying at Nebraska. Nebraska coach Matt Rhule signed a two-year contract extension this morning, which will take him through the 2032 season. It includes a $15 million buyout this year that effectively eliminates him from any jobs in this coaching cycle.
Rhule locks in an extension with an AAV of $11.7 million per year (including retention bonuses). Huge news for the Huskers ahead of a big game vs. USC.
The bar for success at Kent is probably lower than any other FBS program, I think their admin would be content with football winning 4 games most seasons as long as the buy games pay the bills and there’s an occasional bowl thrown in there.
It will be a very occasional bowl!
He’s relatively close to the Canadian border….so, let’s give him credit for double dipping.
From Ross Dellenger on Louisiana governor Landry, doing his best Hughie Long impersonation and the impact on LSU athletics:
“The drama greatly impacts the candidate pool for a job that, most experts contend, is the best open gig in all of college football. At a time when alignment and resourcing is at its most important, LSU, suddenly, seems to be problematic in both areas.
“They are turning a top-three job into a s***show,” says one agent who represents football coaches.
“Does the governor know how damaging this is to their search?” asked another.
…Said one Louisiana figure: “If LSU football implodes, it lays at the feet of the governor.”
You would think that the governor of one of the poorest states in the union would have more pressing matters to be concerned about.
As I said in a few places, that Scott Woodward better get his resume in order, that has proven correct. Fired as AD at LSU. A result of the Brian Kelly firing. And Kim Mulkey is none to happy about this.
Only The Orgeron can bring back stability and level headedness to Baton Rouge…
LSU just named their new head coach. And he is warning the rest of the SEC he is coming to punch them in the mouth! ![]()
I would expect to see Jerry Mack’s name start to be talked about. Not for the top tier jobs like Penn State etc, but for the level just below those. He has done an outstanding job at Kennesaw State.
It wasn’t to the extent of what Louisiana’s governor is doing, but politicians getting involved in picking college coaches isn’t new. Mitt Romney, back in the day, got involved with picking the next HC at BYU.
Kennesaw is quite a story in G6 this season..
Shedding no tears…
Dabo’s seat has to be very hot. Question is who better could they get.
South Carolina just fired OC Mike Shula
Has South Carolina’s spot in the SEC ever been justified through athletic accomplishment?
I’d say the number of NCAA titles that their women’s basketball team has won more than justifies their spot.
