2024 (so-called) off-season thread

I wish their mascot was a long black funeral car. They would be noticed.

When Thomas Daskas entered the portal he took all the Miami stuff out of his Instagram profile. Today he went and put it back. Is he coming out of the portal??

It’s not like Mercyhurst hasn’t played Miami the past few years.

Interesting. He finished really strong this season. I was surprised he hit the portal.

Fargo takes a 2-games-to-none lead in the best-of-5 series vs. Noreen’s Tri-City team, winning 3-1 on Monday.

On a positive note: Miami commit Michael Quinn scored the first Fargo goal.

Storm needs to bring it tomorrow or their coach is going to be on a one way flight to Oxford. Quinn’s goal was assisted by Brasen Boser (who had points on all the goals and was the 2nd USHL star of the night). Makes you think what could have been with them both next year :frowning:

I’m almost surprised the game was so close, TCs starting goalie got suspended for roughing in the last game and he’s been lowkey carrying the team recently. The guy who came in for him did great though, only allowed 2 goals and the one from Quinn was unstoppable (the other was a PPG)

Also, the NCHC schedule should be released at 1pm today

Selfishly, kind of hope they lose so Noreen can give his full attention to Miami. I respect his decision to finish the season with TC, but would be lying if I said I didn’t want him to focus on the offseason. Especially with how many guys are in the portal right now that he has connections with. I am curious how many spots we actually have available right now

Season schedule is out.
19 home dates
Alaska Anchorage and Lindenwood bring some fresh faces to the schedule.
Only two series (Fall Break and J-Term) where students will be away.
A rare Thursday game as part of the home and home with Robert Morris.

Can the team get 10 + wins total ?

Daskas liked the schedule announcement on Instagram

I love speculating :joy:

7 of the 10 non conference games to start the season are at home but obviously everyone will still be getting used to the new coach so it could take some time to gel. I would hope we have at least 8 wins at the start of conference play then only have to double our NCHC win total from 23/24 to get to 10!

2024 Non Conference Pairwise: (Miami 51)
Alaska Anchorage: 40
RPI: 53
Robert Morris: 59
Lindenwood: 62
Ferris State: 63

That is one weak OOC schedule.

I can already envision having to write a Debbie Downer story after the team starts 7-3 or better heading into NCHC play. But it’s not like Miami can do much worse in conference play.

Anyone playing Miami in OOC is actually talking Bout what a weak OOC series that will be. We suck and need wins!

The teams on this schedule were negotiated months and years ago. Noreen inherited this slate of bottom feeders from Bergeron. Consider it Berge’s parting gift to the program.

Back to lurking.

I recall Miami doing about the same type of scheduling in hoops a few years ago…maybe more than once.

Seems to me that given the near decade-long history of the program and roster instability over much of that time, a “weaker” OOC schedule is beneficial to enable the new coach to get a few wins under her belt prior to NCHC play.

Isn’t travel distance an expense factor that keeps Miami relatively close when possible?

No BGSU and OSU is a travesty. Do we not have any legislators (maybe even a Governor) that can make this happen?

This is a very un-MHT comment, but I think everyone is right here.

Yes, Berge wanted a weak OOC schedule and yes, he wanted opponents as close as possible to save on travel expenses. I’m fine with a slightly weaker OOC schedule, especially since Miami is struggling. But all 10 games against bottom-third teams?

Again, let’s get BUGS (which I know was bad last year) and OSU back. It’s concerning that they’re going to play 10 cupcakes and then jump up six levels to NCHC opponents.

On a side note, is Ferris ever going to get better? I know Bob Daniels is a Big Rapids legend but his teams have been really bad for a while now.
