Can’t say Willard has handled this situation all too well. Then again, not sure how you do
Good friends with a Terps alum. They are apoplectic (despite having a reasonably good shot to get to a final 4).
I’m not gonna be sad if Groce (or Senderoff) leave for greener pastures, but I’m not gonna root for two of the MAC’s better coaches to bolt when we’re already on the verge of being a Bottom 10 conference. Not like them staying is gonna bring us close to the Top 10 by themselves (and even if so it won’t put in at-large contention) but I don’t want Miami to be a shining star in a pile of crap.
We absolutely need–desperately–to have a couple teams win some OOC games against power teams and win a bunch in the conference. If not, the conference ranking will doom us and all others in the MAC to the one bid/13 seed league pergatory. So, as there’s a better chance of doing that with Groce and Senderoff, I hope they stay and stay strong.
Maybe a few other coaches improve. Ball State hire is good. BG coach is as well. I like Stan at EMU and the UMass coach went to a final 4 at South Carolina. Mac will be just fine as Kent is a decent job and to some degree so is Akron although the overall university like Kent is struggling a bit.
Good points. That would be the best way to improve our NET. Hope it happens.
I think it’s absolutely insane the MAC has 2 coaches that went to the elite 8 in it. And one that went to a final 4. Also, Steele’s last team at X won the NIT (which I know he’d been let go but he gets some credit there as he ran that ship.) Anyhow, that’s bananas. MAC basketball may have a low NET but that’s because it’s rigged. Conference is very good.
Fordham has now shifted to UC Riverside coach Mike Magpayo. Looks like Senderoff is staying at Kent.
Good. I want to keep whomping that dumpy loser three teams a season every season.
So what form does a “massive commitment to NIL” take? Serious question.
At least $1M per year for MAC schools to remain strong. That is what’s needed to keep players. My guess is Miami’s budget last year was $400k and this year maybe $600k.
So the CMU BB coach is now in the coaching portal…though he got a push to get there.
Congrats Rob Summers, new head coach at Cleveland St
That’s a home and home we should schedule…
Thanks for posting! Very happy for him, saw him as a possible successor to Steele if, when…
Potter to Cleveland State? I wonder…
Ps, let’s get them as a regular on the local schedule. Typically a very good team.
