2024-25 Coaching Carousel

I have no idea how that is going to be sustainable for a school like Miami. The last push for the closest thing to a basketball supporter group was the Field of 68, which aimed to get 68 donors to donate at least $1000 each. I get the impression they didn’t “fill” up those spots. And that was to the AD, not NIL.

I know some donors are probably much larger than others, but 1m per year seems ambitious without some real heavy hitters getting involved (maybe they are though?)

@Hoosierhawk my reply was to someone asking what Senderoff would consider a “big NIL” committment from school/boosters for him to stay at Kent. Yes, $1M would be a very large ask for Miami. But with the House/NCAA settlement likely coming where the schools will pay directly to players and they have to pony up $20M total to be split between football, M/W hoops and then the rest, it could very well be that $1M is on the really low end of roster building at a school–$2-$3M is likely though for MAC level schools. Collectives are then excess of the direct school payment as far as I can understand the settlement provisions.
As for Miami in current set up, I think last season NIL was somewhere in the $400k range ($10k each freshmen, $25k to each five sophs and the three starting transfers were likely in all in the $60-$100k range). Was told this year’s NIL budget was higher (I was estimating around $600k) considering what it likely took to keep Suder & Elmer in particular along with any portals we bring in and I’m sure Byers wasn’t cheap to keep either. Increases in pay to the rising sophomores/juniors plus 5 freshmen as well. Adds up quickly LOL.

Wow that is way more than football had last year which Martin has publicly said was $80k. Mote this year.

I wonder who is funding basketball

I’m sure that $2M donation to hoops by former Chipotle CEO now Starbucks CEO helped the cause!!

Really good article that lays out reality of current marketplace for players. I think many will be shocked to see what is out there to be had. And its not just P4 schools–teams in Missouri Valley, A-10, etc all have significant $$ to offer players. As I noted in previous posts, $1M should be the goal of top MAC teams in current landscape.

That’s frustrating for a program like High Point. How much longer is McDermott going to stick around?

I’m sure there’s a defined timeline… given the churn of older coaches in the last 2-3 years, smart move by Creighton to have some stability. For Huss, he probably doubles his pay to be the top assistant and can have a hand in shaping the team he’s taking over.
