The lodge at Hueston Woods State Park, about 15 minutes away, is nice in a simple, old-school way.
Was out there in 2017 during the BG football game debacle weekend. I was quite surprised. The lodge was in fairly desperate need of an upgrade and renovation at that time. Lots of worn carpet, strange moldy odors and broken things in the lobby. Moss was growing on parts of the roof. I was curious as to the contract vendor might have been but didn’t follow up on it. Probably a moot point though, as there is no availability at the lodge for either Family Weekend or Homecoming.
It’s a real downer to drive up all the way from NC for a football weekend and have to stay in Tri-County, Fairfield or West Chester - especially when you tried to reserve on the day the schedule was released. Kind of defeats the purpose.
My son worked for management at the Hampton Inn in Ann Arbor for a short time. Their policy for football weekends, graduations, other major events, was to more than double the nightly cost for a room. PLUS, one had to guarantee for three nights, whether they stayed or not. Always packed. HUGE money makers! However, he was there during Covid and they would literally rent one or two rooms a night.
Kentucky Gentleman. Still the best handle on this board. Just sayin.’
I stayed at the Scottish Inn once. It was nice.
Also the Farmer convocation is always on Sunday afternoons (last of all colleges) during graduation weekend. I suspect that they schedule that way (instead of rotating with the others that take place at Millett) so the FSB families, who I’m guessing are out-of-state at much higher rates than some of the other schools, are more likely to stay around Oxford for up to another 1-2 nights.
I had Scottish Fusion Cuisine for lunch the other day. (And by Scottish Fusion, I mean McDonalds. You know, a French Fry. Burrito. McNuggets with hot and sour sauce.)
They’ve done some redecorating/upgrading to Hueston Woods…but it’s still a rustic experience. We take our younger grandkids there for a weekend stay from time to time, and they dig it.
Anyone know the timeframe for Miami football’s spring practice period?
The Spring Game is April 22nd, so…
After taking 2022 off, it looks like Ron Zook, now 68 years old, is coaching again. He’s the DC for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons. He was Maryland’s associate head coach and DC in 2021.
68? Pffffft. He’s a pup compared to some guy named Tim Rose, who is still the Defensive Coordinator for Ashland. Tim’s only 81 years old.
Yep. Zook’s actually a Miami alum.
Yep, he was the Apache back defensively back in the pre-politically correct days The Redskin days. The glory days of the '70s.
I may be wrong but I think Zook was all MAC his senior year.
We went to Clemson to see our niece and go to a football game. Local hotels wanted $700/night. We stayed an hour away.
Here’s where we start:
#91 overall…2nd in MAC behind Toledo but first in MAC East…#24 in G5…in the worst rated conference in the country.
Lol Sean Lewis really did (potentially) leave Kent in shambles, didn’t he?
And everybody left when he left.
Absolutely, Baymont Inn’s have turned into real shit holes.
