In 15-20 years, I really hope they do a study on the success rates of those students who transfer 1 to many times during a career, comparing their athletic/academic/post college success vs. the metrics for those who stayed at one school. It’d be really interesting…

To be fair, I did not see the use of the specific word “defectors” by Chuck.
He said that had been defections and additions due to the portal.
To me, that is not a personal attack on those that left. It is a fact.
Yes, it might have been better to say subtractions? However, Chuck is a football coach and not an English professor.

I think all of us would agree that for better or worse, Chuck reflects a football coaching and management philosophy from a much different era. I think he sees modern trends with NIL and the transfer portal as undermining trust and respect for your program for a system of quasi-mercenaries, which may have truth to it but it’s a sentiment of a bygone era. To Chuck’s credit I have never doubted his love for his players and it’s not like he’s refused to participate in the portal out of protest, but he certainly doesn’t have a poker face about this kind of stuff.

I agree. But if your post-college success doesn’t include what they did in their sport of choice, I would add that as well.

There also seem to be a few freshman names on the current roster I’m not familiar with. We’ve got 26 true freshmen on our current roster. CM announced 16 signings on NLI day last December.
We’ve got 20 players on the current roster who started their college careers elsewhere. That’s 19% of our roster of 105 and probably 25-30% of the guys who will see regular playing time this season. It’s quite obvious the portal has had a major impact on Miami’s football program.

Check out Jackson Kuwatch–transfer in from Lakota West (very close to Oxford) was a 1st Team All State linebacker that walked on at Ohio State and didn’t work out. Big kid at 6’4/235. He’s transfer in. My (graduated) UC great nephew who was full ride at UC knows him and said keep an eye on him. First team All-State from team that had multiple D1 players but looks like he only had offers from smaller schools
