This Reds team has really been fun to watch. Karcher was a thrill a minute last night-thank goodness Casali is a good athlete and saved him from several wild pitches that could have lost them the game. His post game interview with Jim Day was quite colorful to say the least!
Yep, another memorable moment in a season thatās already full of them. Feels like the Reds are a dozen games over .500 when theyāre actually 32-35. Ha!
25-20 since April 24!
And they just keep on winning!
And significant parts of the pitching staff are on the DL, like Lodolo and Sanmartin. The only question for me is do they bring up Strand, and if so when. He certainly has earned a call up. But on the other hand, you donāt want to mess up the current chemistry. Fun team to watch!!
Sweep of the reigning World Series champsā¦on the road. Lol.
The last few seasons have been a hot streak, a lot of June and early July wins. Then at the All-Star break, everyone figures how to pitch to the Reds and things go back to the usual losing.
I welcome this post to be proved wrong in October as the Reds make a deep postseason run.
The Reds arenāt making a deep postseason runā¦this year. They donāt have nearly enough pitching. But I think winning their crappy division is possible, and it would be great to get The Young Red Machine some playoff experience.
Fun team to watch, tho. Agree that they need more pitching but they definitely can contend for the divisional title.
Hopefully they get Ashcraft straightened out and Lodolo comes back strong for the stretch run.
He last hit over .300 in 2017. Heās about a .250 hitter since.if he deemed that acceptable someone else should make that decision.Heās pulled his lifetime average below,.300. (.297). His HOF isnāt a shure thing at this rate.
Reds started 7-15 I think. As a fan since 1972 this is fun.
We were discussing who the Reds would drop as guys return. I think we kind of got it right when we said Hopkins and Barerro to the minors when Senzel and Farley returned but the next cuts are going to be tougher. We still have Votto and the former Padres RF and possibly Encarnation - Strand to fit into the roster and anybody else we cut will be somebody who is contributing now. Since we will be adding First basemen/DH type player we may drop Casali and make Stephenson catch most of the time. That would be my best guess for our next move. Of course, with the reckless abandon that Farley, Friedle, and India are playing, any of them could end up on the dl.
Votto was brutally bad last year, but tried to play thru an injured shoulder which hurt enough that he had trouble sleeping. Oh, and his bicep was also torn.
In 2021, while his batting average was indeed low, his .938 OPS was 7th in all of MLB. He had a great offensive season.
Coming back from last seasonās injuries/surgeries would be difficult for a 29 year old, let alone a 39 year old. The odds are against Votto being productive, but Iām glad heās going to have a chance to give it a go.
Heās supposedly in the line up tonight.7:10 pm
I wish him the best. But, If heās struggling it puts the Mgr. On the spot and heās been doing a great job.
Heās been sub par at least 4 years hitting around .250
Yes, by Batting Average heās been around .250 the past 4 years, but his On Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage hasnāt fallen off as much as his AVG.
Weighted Runs Created Plus is a good statistic to compare a playerās relative offensive worth against the āaverageā player each season. A value of 100 is average. Hereās Vottoās wRC+ from 2019 thru 2022:
2019: 98
2020: 110
2021: 139
2022: 92
Last year he was a below average offensive player. In 2019 he was slightly below average. 2020 he was slightly above (tho to be fair, he was bad in 2020 but so was everyone else), but in 2021 he was well above average.
Vottoās value has been in his ability to walk and to hit HRās. Hopefully heās got some of that left.
Well, it turns out Hunter Green is injured and he went on the dl and was replaced by Votto. So we are down 1 pitcher and up one hitter for now.
Not a bad return for one Joseph Daniel Votto at all.
