2023 Cincinnati Reds thread

A few teams dumping high priced players today. Reds may be in a position to claim nearly as many of them as they want. Marlins are the only other team in serious playoff contention with a better waiver position.

Clevinger and Matt Moore would be impact adds to this roster.

At least the Reds avoided the no hitter last night.Yikes!

Dick-if you want the Reds to get Lucas Giolito he is available. Angels cut him last night.

Clevinger would be a great addition, he has been pitching his best baseball since he left the Indians.

Clevinger could be a really good pickup. He has a $12 million dollar mutual option for 2024 that the Reds could definitly afford and seems to be rounding back to form now two years removed from his Tommy John surgery. He will be 33 in 2024 so he may chose to opt out to try and get a longer deal to close out his career.

I think if you look at the Reds objective woes since the trade deadline, and slightly before it, the problems weren’t pitching. It was, and is, the Reds offense has cooled off significantly. Do they have pitching issues? Yes. But cooled off bats and injuries to key players like India, Fraley, and now McClain, is in my opinion (subjective) the major issue.

Hopefully India and Fraley can provide a spark when they return soon.
Most of the rookies are going through typical rookie stuff. A lot rides on if they can make the adjustments or not.

10 of their last 27 games are against teams with winning records and all of those are at home. It’s not looking too promising but there’s still a window if they can turn it around.

Doing well against the Cubs would be a good start.

The win yesterday was crucial to the Reds staying relevant in the playoff chase. At absolute minimum, they need to split with the Cubs. Then the red hot Mariners come into town. Good to see Hunter pitch well yesterday and CES had his best game of the season.

It is being reported on ESPN that the Reds have claimed both Hunter Renfroe and Harrison Bader off waivers. Both good moves in my opinion.

Fraley activated. Bader and Renfroe added to active roster. Hunter Green has Covid. RHP Brian Kennedy called up from Louisville. Lodolo done for the year.

Lance Lynn’s last 2 starts:

10.1 innings
17 hits
10 earned runs
2 strikeouts

Ooof.

And Lively has Covid and Ashcroft has a toe injury and is getting a MRI. Rotation is in shambles! Just keep on fighting, like last night.

Ugh. Ashcraft likely headed to IL, and Williamson to the Covid IL. Not sure who starts tomorrow’s game. Missing 5 of their top 6 starting pitchers.

22 games left, still tied for a playoff spot. Fangraphs says 21.6% chance of playoffs. Next few games will be tough until Greene, Williamson, India, and Lively return.

Not sure how they have enough pitchers for today and tomorrow.

Winning two against Seattle with a makeshift pitching staff is quite an accomplishment. When Elly gets on base, he is such a distraction to the opposing pitcher and defense.

Huge.

We have the right approach. Just keep fighting and getting contributions from all kinds of guys. The schedule lightens up for the rest of the year and we should be getting some of the injured and ill back along the way.
