Honestly, I think the most likely candidate to play elsewhere other than Luke, is Brant. I’m optimistic everyone will return though.
Disagree about Luke, but we shall see. Just need Steele to continue to commit to the program and the other dominoes should fall into place. And the program needs to commit to Coach and the players!
Think it was a combination of both.
Ik we need a big man, but the way basketball is played these days is mostly positionless so I’d rather have multiple 6’6” to 6’9” guys taking up space and choking up lanes rather than a single 7 footer and 4 undersized guards
Luke Skaljac is a double legacy
Certainly a factor, but we still need to take care of him and the other guys. I won’t act like I know any of the players on a personal level, but from interviews and Field zoom calls, it does seem there is a clique of very close friends on our team. I think as long as we can make them all offers that have the right number of digits, we likely have goodwill to try and keep the team together even if its not necessarily top dollar. The culture does seem strong, but I guess we are about to find out.
All this assumes Steele is still here of course.
=>Kenny “Hitman” Hayes retired this year.
Today would be a good day for Steele and Miami to announce a contract extension and that Steele is staying.
I was thinking the same thing- I will start getting nervous if it is much longer. I figured Saturday was the girls and Sunday isnt a day of a lot of press releases
Butler is reported to be actively doing initial interviews (zoom maybe at this point). If Travis has been contacted (and I am sure he has), I suspect he will want to listen to what they have to say before committing to Miami. Again, Butler may go a different direction regardless.
I’m sure Butler has an impressive list of candidates, so I’m hoping (selfishly) that Steele isn’t at the top. But if his alma mater offers him the job, there’s nothing we can we do about it, fellas. It’ll be like an 80s sitcom where the bookish kid (with the heart of gold that everyone is rooting for), gets the pretty cheerleader to go to prom with him, but then the quarterback asks her the next day, so she breaks the date with him.
Goodman said Nored and Groce are front runners for Butler. Sign that contract, Travis! ![]()
It would be kind of a dickish move for Groce to take the job at his brother’s alma mater.
Just go with Nored, Butler.
Alma mater or not, it still isn’t a great job that you take off of a 32-2 season.
Butler is obviously a bigger job than Miami, but I’m not sure it’s a better job.
They have a very tough road ahead of them in the Big East.
not that Steele is or would be a candidate for UNC. But that job opening will have a ripple effect, same with Kansas if Selfs heart literally and figuratively isn’t in it
It would be like meeting the girl of your dreams and then finding out she’s an Amazon Alexa
It’s a Small Wonder it hasn’t happened like that yet
I definitely want Steele to stay, but how nice is it that we’re worried he might leave? That means we had a really good season. No one was ever banging down our door to try to lure Cooper or Owens away.
Owens and Cooper each had 5 years as Miami’s head coach.
Let’s check the win totals…
Owens: 70
Cooper: 59
Steele (this season): 32
Steele won a quarter of the games this year that Owens/Cooper won in a decade.
