What Needs to Happen ASAP

Excellent reference. They should remake Small Wonder, but have Cher play the role of Vicky.

My guess on the Steele contract extension is, hopefully, by the end of this week or next week at the latest. I say that because I think an important consideration is staff retention and it’d be great to announce that Steele has come to terms until 2032++ and the staff has also been re-signed with substantial salary increases.

I hope it is a lot sooner than that. Last year Steele was meeting the Monday after the SATURDAY MAC title game with players about if they were staying

i’m sure with Miami on spring break this week, many if not all of the players have had some conversation with the coaching staff already. Likely right after the game Friday and Saturday after getting back to campus. gives the players a chance and some time to think things through and make decisions for their futures as well as staff decisions.

With Miami on break this week - after the loss on Friday did players head home and/or out of town? I would imagine this pushes back end of year player meetings with the coaching staff.

Last year we lost to Akron on 3/15, Suder return announcement on 3/20. Break started on 3/22 so everyone was back on campus that week after the loss to meet with the coaches.

My daughter passed Ipsaro at the Kenwood Towne Center in Cincy yesterday afternoon. She was super excited and said to her friend “That was Evan Ipsaro!”

She turned back as she said it and he turned and smiled.

I think the band is getting back together. There are a lot of moving parts going on, but imo Steele isn’t waiting for Butler. He’s going to build Butler here.

Agree with Yellow as I typically do.

“Miami (Ohio) coach and Butler alum Travis Steele is reportedly no longer a candidate for the position.” Per the Indy Star

Groce would be a very interesting hire at Butler and it’s probably down to him, Nored, or Holtmann coming back.

Hes basically topped out at Akron. 3peat and 4 in 5 years. He never got the tourney win, but other than that, unless he’s just done and staying there for his last decade or so until retirement, might be ready for a new challenge and one last shot at a bigger league.

Travis Steele

A source with knowledge of the coaching search told USA TODAY Network that Miami (Ohio) coach Travis Steele is not expected to be Butler’s next coach. It is unclear if Steele was offered the job, but the Danville native and Butler alum may not have the same internal support of other potential candidates.

Well maybe a bullet dodged. UC is off the board and seemingly Butler as well.

Who knows? Sayler’s contract offer might be better than we realize w $$ support for coaching staff and increased NIL money to hold our team intact for the most part.

=>TS would have talked to the players Friday night.

Gut feel as to what happens in the next 3-4 weeks:

  • Steele extends and staff remain as well
  • Byers portal
  • Elmer portal (slight chance he stays but will take monster NIL deal for Miami/MAC standards which will still be significantly less than his portal market value)
  • Atlasson stay
  • Ipsaro stay (no option due to injury)
  • Skaljac likely stay (depends on plans/roles for him/Ipsaro)
  • Kirby stay
  • Robbins stay
  • Waltz stay
  • Stowers stay
  • Kotecki stay
  • Perry portal (logjam at PG for next two seasons potentially)
  • 2 frontcourt transfers in (C & PF)
  • 1 wing transfer in (unless Elmer stays)

Add in the 2 freshmen and that would give 13 scholarship players for next season. Should be interesting as always.

I hope this is not the case. I want Elmer, Ipsaro, and Kotecki getting the love/cheers they deserve together on senior night next year.

I think Elmer stays just like Suder did. Most worried about Byers. But if MU makes them comparable offers, I could see everyone coming back. Definitely don’t see Perry leaving. Skally before Perry, legacy or not.

Funny thing is I had a dream several weeks ago that Byers went to Texas in the portal. Lol.

My thoughts on who portals in order of likelihood, and to be clear I want none of them to leave:

  1. Elmer
  2. Byers
  3. Skaljac
  4. Perry
