6 years, $300k per year.

I am pretty shocked that it’s only $300K a year, less than Jack’s base pay his last year. There must be some pretty large backend performance clauses you would have to think. Not really about the money for Steele (other than ego), but surprised he didn’t push for getting at least what Owens was getting.

On XU message board there were a couple references to Steele getting $1.7 mil on his way out…could his buyout be that much? If so, helps explain his willingness to take less at Miami and perhaps any salary earned cuts into the buyout amount.

I agree. Not a good look for Harper. Not only his complaining, but what does it say about you when your son is a pawn in your own job search?

I think you have this right. There are very likely performance bonuses built in that could be substantial. The $300k was stated as being the base salary. Some here talked about the idea that the compensation be built to grow with the accomplishments of the program as he elevates it. MU may be able to afford higher comp tied to achievements like tourney bids and higher attendance as Coach Steele moves forward.

True!

Because they didn’t offer him the HC position when Owens got it. He was very interested. That’s why his kid went to Rutgers. Would be interesting to see where we’d be right now if Harp had been named HC and had brought Jr to Oxford.

Or where Miami would be had Herb Sendek stayed…sometimes you have to pay up to keep talent and then the revenues flow thereafter.

Miami might have been playing in a new arena for the past 10-20 years…of course, people would bitch about it now being an old arena.

Imagine if Megan had stayed,

Always fun to dream the “what ifs” in life.

Well maybe Steele will be able to deliver on those dreams if he’s successful enough and stays long enough.

I wonder if 300K as his base salary means extra money for the assistant pool.

Maybe that’s what Steele wanted since his buyout from X means he is not hurting for cash.

Why do you care about this? He got rid of him and we have our guy now in Steele.

The Owens extension reworked the buyout to make it much less expensive to let him go. We’re going to owe hardly anything now that he’s been hired as an assistant at OSU. The extension was objectively good.

Anyone wanting to talk about Henderson can do so in the Henderson thread. This ain’t that.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but we go from paying Owens $370k to paying Steele $300k. We also don’t owe Owens a penny of buyout money. Seems like a good move for a budget conscious athletic department.

Essentially, you’re saying who’s zooming who. Am I right?
Also, I’ve used that joke at least once a week related to who is sending the next zoom link. Us or the clients. It’s well trodded now and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Gerald?
