According to a poster on the MAC board, CUSA, SUNBELT, and MAC went to ESPN and asked them to create a new bowl in the Dallas-Ft Worth area so that no team would get left out. Hawaii at 6-7 gets the extra spot and will stay home at Host their game.
Thanks, Dick. Take a look at the thread on Bowl Projections that has been up for a few weeks. Somebody posted McMurphy’s tweet a couple hours ago. Still nothing on the NCAA’s page but there’s already a Wikipedia page on it. Assuming at this stage it’s legit, although there are reports of people impersonating reporters and bloggers related to the coaching carousel. Good news, I hope.
Nice!
ESPN has it on their NCAA web page, so it certainly appears legit!
Now we need to root for going to the Myrtle Beach bowl so Nescacdad can attend!
Attaboy, Cincy. Send NTSU and Wyoming to Odessa or Texarkana!
Maybe I can get to the game if in Myrtle, Nescacdad! My last in person Miami bowl game was the Cal Bowl in ‘86.
Hope you can make another one. I did the Cal Bowl but didn’t catch another one until St. Petersburg. I did the Lending Tree in Mobile, too.
…and offer participation ribbons to everyone.
This is replacing a bowl that existed at the beginning of the season.
Now, instead of posting about our anxiety about whether we are even getting a bowl slot or not, we can simply return to more endless and mindless speculation about which bowl we will be in.
We could go back to 15 or 20 bowls - like it was in 1998 - when Miami’s 10-1 team that had beaten UNC sat home. Would that be more to your liking?
Here’s the official NCAA announcement!
That was a real shame as we had such a good team that year…I remember watching UNC upsetting NC State to get to 6-5 and I had a sinking feeling about the possibility of them getting the bowl slot ahead of us…every single bowl projections had us penciled into the Vegas Bowl. UNC took very few fans to the game but may have delivered a larger TV audience.
Our ‘95 team also went 8-2-1 and beat the B10 champion Northwestern but also sat home during bowl season. (I think we lost to Toledo that year who won the MAC. ) Walker had a lot of good teams in the 90’s.
I think in 1995 Miami tied Toledo 28-28 , coming back to tie it. Very happy for Jack and other seniors. Extra practice time and good for recruiting. And good for all of us as fans and or alums! I am both. 1st became a fan in 1973,
You’re correct, MiamiMu! (I looked it up). We tied Toledo but lost to Ball State. Other loss was to Michigan and we beat UC (of course!). Toledo finished ranked 24th that year. As a fun factoid, our OC that year was Sean Payton.
I saw that Toledo team play Chris Ault’s Nevada Wolf Pack in the Las Vegas Bowl. Ironically it was the first OT game in NCAA history. Toledo, coached by Gary Pinkel, won it. Don James was there to support Gary. Everyone expected Gary would replace Don at Washington but AD Barbara Hedges stabbed them both in the back - brought Pinkel in for an interview as a decoy and then hired Neuheisel. Washington’s loss was Missouri’s gain.
Absolutely not. Time to get back to our roots: crying about times and dates.
