For football at least

Agreed— I am very surprised they would leave a stronger A10 hoops league for the MAC.

I think WKU and MTSU are like a married couple that fights all the time but is inseparable in spite of that fact.

Not that I care, but to answer your question it is 278 miles. I fish Kentucky Lake. Great place. From my driveway to Millett parking lot is 366 miles. As long as we are discussing distances we drive! :grinning:

Nescadad, I have no insights on that but based on previous reports, MTSU was not at all interested in moving to the MAC where as WKU did at least show some interest.

It would seem to me WKU would do what they deem best for them, and not sure if that involves the MAC or not. At the same time, even if they joined the MAC (maybe for historically better hoops and regional rivalries), there is nothing to prevent them from scheduling MTSU as a non-con football and hoops opponent. They could also obviously play them in baseball, softball, etc.

I think WKU would be a very good add to the MAC if the league is intent on going to an even numbered 14 members.

Competitively WKU would be a great add and edge the MAC south. MTSU has the most potential but an admin that’s been holding them back for yrs. They’re cashing the conf departure/entrance fees in to finally build needed facilities. 100 miles of hate rivalry might be best rivalry name. I think they either head to MAC or SB soon to get out of FCUSA

It wasn’t that MTSU wasn’t interested, it was that they couldn’t afford the CUSA exit fee. They felt it was better to collect the money from the other schools exiting. And it wasn’t that WKU had some interest, they were ready to join and pretty furious that MTSU held them back.

So Jive…do you envision WKU joining without MTSU?

Lurking on their message boards. I’m surprised they think that UMass would attract either ACC or B10 attention

I recall that now. WKU would have joined alone but the MAC said no. WKU used to have a Miami tie. When we were there in 2015 the University President and AD stopped by to greet us in their Student Union. The President said his son in law was on the Miami Dept of Athletics staff. He and his daughter and grand kids lived in Oxford. He laughed and said he disappointed his G-Kids would be wearing RedHawks gear for the game.

That’s going to be a problem for the conference moving forward if they can’t solve it. The MAC will not survive as a conference of the G5 Michigan and Ohio schools, BSU, NIU, and UB aside. It makes the brand so cheap and keeps most the interest to bettors.

Yes. Because they tried to a few months ago like @NESCACDAD mentioned. Rivalries don’t need to be in a conference to survive (see Miami v UC). And if anything, it makes it easier. You’re guaranteed to have a home/home every year for each sport. That’s a nice bonus as scheduling becomes harder and harder.

This will never happen for a number of reasons, but I’d love to see a MAC with U of Dayton in it.

Do I ever agree there! WKU would be a fantastic addition the MAC and a good road trip for fans-not a terribly long drive from the Cincinnati area.

Do you think the MAC ever consider poaching WKU, Liberty and MTSU and going to 16 teams? That would be a fun conference for Miami to be in.

Last football game with them (1978) ended up in 10-10 tie.

That year we beat North Carolina and UC.

Oh well.

DON TREADWELL THREW the winning TD in the UNC game.

I approve.

Liberty won’t be included in MAC expansion. It is a church-based private university.

Western would be a longtime commitment, UConn for football only would be a temporary spot for their football, much like UCF.

There’s a better chance Wright State gets added into the A10 before UD joins the MAC
